Post Nets Four Unanswered in Final Frame to Stun Visiting Georgian Court, 15-14, in CACC Opener

Waterbury, Conn. - Owning a seven-goal lead with 3:07 to go in the second quarter, Georgian Court University could not hold back a surging Post University squad as the host-Eagles soared for a 14-6 run the rest of way to escape with an improbable 15-14 Saturday triumph in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash of the season for both.

Opening the contest with a mighty 7-0 run after the initial 15:00 of play, the Lions (1-8, 0-1 CACC) ultimately strutted into intermission with a 9-3 cushion. After a Michael Ventresca goal made it 10-3 GCU 1:30 into the third, Post (3-3, 1-0 CACC) peppered its guest with four-straight scoring efforts to slide to within three of Georgian Court (10-7) at the 8:23 mark of the period.

Both teams would proceed to send in four apiece, pushing the score to 14-11 Lions with 7:05 remaining in regulation. The home squad proceeded to stun the royal-and-gold with another 4-0 run to steal the conference decision. Dylan Heald (Colchester, Conn.), with four goals and two assists, had no bigger point on the day as the sophomore slipped in the game-winner with 0:22 left on the clock, snapping the 14-14 stalemate.

Nick Meier (So.-Bethel, Conn.) paced the Post offense with seven goals in the win as six total Eagles recorded three or more points on the day. James Sanford, Tallen Smith (one assist),Ventresca (one assist) all compiled hat tricks for the Lions while Daniel Burnham provided four goals and two helpers in the effort.

Russell Robinson (Jr.-Manassas, Va.), off the Post bench, collected the goalkeeping victory with eight saves in 43:09. Sebastian Farah took the setback, despite his 11 saves in a complete-game showing.

Georgian Court returns to non-conference play this Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. road game at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
