Staten Island, N.Y. - Plating 20 total runs, highlighted by a quartet of long balls in the opener, Georgian Court University extended its winning-streak to a season-high five games Monday with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin-bill sweep vs. Nyack College (played at The College of Staten Island).
Home runs from Jadalynn Rodriguez (first of career),
Kaitlyn Stufft (6th of year), and a pair off the bat of
Alyssa Rue (three on season), contributed to a 12-hit barrage in game one as the Lions collected an 8-3 win over the Warriors.Â
Mikayla Gilgert recorded the GCU victory (7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 8 K) permitting a fourth-inning three-run homer to
Kaila Quick (Jr.-Dover, Del.) to account for all of the Nyack (4-11, 0-2 CACC) scoring.Â
A pair of four-run showings in the 2nd and 5th frames, complemented by a three-spot in the 4th, provided plenty of run support in game two as the Lions recorded their third mercy-rule victory of the young campaign at 12-4 (5 inn.). Stufft (3-for-4, 2B) gathered a career-high six RBI in the rout ( seven on the day). Off to a torrid start at the dish, the sophomore now owns a conference-best 28 ribbies in just 20 contests.
Alaina Scimone shined with a 2-for-4 showing, accounting for four RBI of her own in the nightcap.
Adriana Mungo (2-for-4, 2 R) and
Alyssa Herrera (2-for-2, 2B, 4 R), enjoyed multi-hit efforts while Rue (1-for-4) drove in another pair of tallies to provide the sophomore shortstop five on the afternoon.
Gilgert (8-4) coming in to relieve starter
Sarah Clancy (ND) to start the third inning, yielded just a lone hit (1 K) over three shutout frames to earn the senior her second win of the day.Â
Georgian Court (12-8, 2-0 CACC) stays on the road for its next action as the Lions visit Holy Family University this Wednesday for another CACCÂ double-dip (2:00 p.m.). Bensalem High School (Bensalem, Pa.) will host the set.
