Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University recorded its highest offensive output since the 2012 campaign Wednesday at the Lions walloped visiting Wilmington University, 25-12, to remain perfect in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action.
The GCU tally total is the program's largest in a single contest since defeating Philadelphia University (now Jefferson), 26-20, back on Apr. 5, 2012. The royal-and-gold, now 7-0 in CACC play (8-7 overall) extends its CACC winning streak to 49-straight (including postseason). The Lions have averaged 20.1 goals-per-game over their six conference outings.
The Wildcats (9-5, 4-3 CACC) came out feisty after the opening draw by developing a quick first period lead of 4-1 (7:57). The Lions collected the contest's next three scores to make it 4-4 at the 8:23 mark of the second quarter. Wilmington's
Ella Baynes (Fr.-Baltimore, Md.) countered with a pair to slip ahead, 6-4, with 5:39 left. WU, clinging to an 8-7 surplus with 1:14 to go before the break, would not lead again. GCU hit the gas to outscore its guest, 19-4, the rest of the way en route to the triumph to close the home regular-season slate.
Shaine Sauter was ferocious all over the field as the senior topped the victors with nine points (seven goals, two assists) while also collecting four ground balls, five caused turnovers, and six draw controls.
Sabrina Chandler (two goals, three assists),
