Wilmington Overcomes Five-Goal Deficit at Home, Escapes CACC Clash With Eventual 17-8 Win Over Georgian Court

Newark, Del. - Owning a five-goal surplus early in the second period (14:32), Georgian Court University could do nothing to hold back its host as Wilmington University answered with a 16-2 run (including a 10-0 surge to close the contest) as the Wildcats sent off the Lions, 17-8, Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse action.

The setback snaps GCU's brief two-game winning streak as the royal-and-gold slips to 3-9 (0-2 CACC) on the season. Wilmington, winner of five-straight, stays perfect in conference play at 2-0 (6-3 overall).

Jake Copio (Sr.-Smyrna, Del.) (five goals, assist) and Logan Stinson (So.-Lafayette, La. ) (four goals, two assists) topped the victors with six points in the triumph as seven Wildcats secured points on the day. Daniel Burnham enjoyed three goals and a helper while Michael Ventresca and Devin Bell deposited two goals apiece for the road team.

Despite the outcome, the Lions dominated the face off, 21-7. Unfortunately, turnovers proved to be an issue as GCU more than doubled the total of its counterpart (25-12).

Jason Roland (Jr.-West Lawn, Pa.) went the distance for the win in frame for the Wildcats, collecting 17 total saves over 60:00. Sebastian Farah (12 GA, 8 Saves) suffered the setback in 30:00 of action. Andrew Candino started and went the first 30:00 for the Lions, gathering eight saves and yielding five tallies in the initial half.

Georgian Court returns home to host Caldwell University this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. for the Lions' first home game since Mar. 19.
