Lions Land First CACC Win of Season With 17-8 Clawing of Caldwell ... Burnham, Ventresca Contribute Five Points Apiece

Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University collected its first conference victory of the spring as the Lions concocted a 17-8 win over visiting Caldwell University Wednesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's lacrosse action.

GCU exploded with 12 unanswered tallies to open the contest, and coasted into intermission with a 16-2 cushion. Caldwell (2-8, 0-4 CACC), winless in conference play, refused to roll over as the Cougars outscored its host by a 6-1 margin in the second stanza. The Lions out-shot its guest, 45-28, and recorded a 27-17 advantage on frame.

Georgian Court dominated the ground ball column, 55-30, while controlling 20 of 29 face-off attempts.

Michael Ventresca (five goals) and Daniel Burnham (three goals, two assists) each contributed five points apiece in the effort. Joe Zerr deposited a pair of tallies and helpers for four points. Devin Bell netted a hat trick while Tallen Smith added a score and two assists.

Andrew Candino (1-1), the first of four GCU net-minders on the day, earned his first collegiate win with the start (30:00, four saves).

The Lions (4-9, 1-2 CACC) return to action this Saturday morning for an 11:00 a.m. visit from Felician University.
