Softball Back on Track With Wednesday Sweep of Chestnut Hill ... Mungo Reaches 100-Hit Milestone in Nightcap

Lakewood, N.J. - Returning to the diamond for the first time since last week's forgetful performance at Wilmington University, Georgian Court University found its way back to the win column as the Lions swept away Chestnut Hill College, 8-0 (5 inn.) and 8-4, in Wednesday CACC softball action.

Mikayla Gilgert needed only three innings to earn the victory in game one as the senior slinger permitted just three hits (0 BB, 4 K) en route to her team-leading 17th victory (17-6) on the year. Sarah Clancy finished with two hitless frames (1 BB, 2 K) to secure the combined shutout performance.

The Lions' lineup mashed six extra-base hits in the blanking. Adriana Mungo, who picked up her 100th-career hit in the nightcap, went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in the game one triumph. Alyssa Rue (2-for-2, 2 R) rapped a pair of two-baggers for the royal-and-gold while Kaitlyn Stufft sent out her conference-leading 13th homer, a two-run shot to right-center, in the second inning.

Slightly sloppy at times, GCU eeked out the "W" in game two despite committing an unsightly five miscues. A three-spot in the third inning, followed by a four-run fourth, proved to be too much for the Griffins (7-31, 1-15 CACC) to overcome.

Four more extra-base knocks highlighted the Georgian Court box score. Mungo (2-for-4, 2B) and Elisa Lopez (2-for-3) each enjoyed multi-hit efforts. Alyssa Herrera (1-for-4) tallied three RBI for the victors.

Haley Korsak (3-2) went the distance for the pitching win, allowing four runs (3 ER) on seven hits and four free passes (2 K).

The Lions (27-11, 16-2 CACC) step out for a non-conference twin-bill Thursday with a visit to Molloy College. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
