Perfection! Gilgert, Clancy Combine for Perfect Game at USciences En Route to CACC Downing of Devils

Herrera Goes 6-for-7 in Twin-Bill as Sophomore Smacks 100th-career Hit

Philadelphia, Pa. - Mikayla Gilgert and Sarah Clancy combined to spin a perfect game, and Alyssa Herrera recorded her 100th career hit, as Georgian Court University posted an efficient Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball sweep of University of the Sciences Monday in a make-up of contests originally scheduled for April 9.

Taking less than an hour (0:59), GCU pitching faced and retired all 15 Devils' batters as the Lions coasted to the 9-0, five-inning triumph. Gilgert started and went the first two frames, striking out one. Clancy (8-3) accounted for the final three innings, also striking out one, as the sophomore earned the decision.

The effort marks the second no-no of the season for Georgian Court hurlers as Gilgert kept the University of Bridgeport hitless in a 3-0 opening-day win over the Purple Knights back on Feb. 26 in Winter Haven, Fla. The native of Apache Junction, Ariz. collected her first collegiate no-hitter on Feb. 29, 2020 (also in Winter Haven) with a six-inning, 8-0 triumph over Tiffin University.

Georgian Court smacked 12 hits in the victory, half of which were for extra-bases. Taylor Lipkins, coming off her first collegiate dinger over the weekend, went a perfect 3-for-3 for the royal-and-gold, which included a double, triple, and three RBI. Kaitlyn Stufft followed with a 2-for-3 performance, registering a double and two ribbies. Herrera (2-for-3, 3B, 2 R, RBI) and Kiara Meikle (2-for-3, 2 R) also posted multi-hit efforts.

A Herrera two-out double plated Adriana Mungo in the top of the seventh inning of the nightcap, snapped a 2-2 stalemate and sent the Lions to a clutch 3-2 game two triumph. The 2021 All-American, with her 4-for-4 showing, is now 10-for-11 (.909) over her last three outings. Lipkins (1-for-4) and Stufft (1-for-4) supplied the other two RBI in the win.

With three RBI on the day, Stufft pushes her CACC lead to 60 in the category, and ties for sixth in all of NCAA Division II. The native of Temecula, Calif. sits just five short of the program record during the NCAA Division II era (65, Samantha Reilly, 2018) and 13 short of the team's all-time total of 73 (Jodi Solana, 1995).

Gilgert, with two innings of perfect relief (2 K) of Clancy (3.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, K) and Haley Korsak (2.0 IP, H, R, ER,), earned the game two decision as the senior moves to 20-7 on the season.

The Lions (31-13, 19-3), return to campus to host Pace University this Wednesday (2:30 p.m./4:30 p.m.) in a doubleheader loaded with regional ranking implications.
