Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University finds itself just one win away from the unprecedented feat of five consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference crowns as the top-seeded Lions coasted to a 22-6 win over #5 Wilmington University in Friday's women's lacrosse semifinals.
GCU will take on #3 Dominican College after the Lady Chargers upset #2 Jefferson, 13-11, in the other semifinal match. The victory puts Georgian Court at 11-7 as the victors extend their winning streak (including postseason) to 52-straight vs. conference foes. Wilmington ends its year with an 11-7 mark.
Opening the day by netting the first five goals of the afternoon, the royal-and-gold owned a healthy 8-1 lead after the first period of action and never looked back. After strutting into the break ahead by nine scores (13-4), the Lions turned on the jets to start the third frame with a 7-0 surge that would put the contest well out of reach for the Wildcats.
Four Lions recorded six or more points in the rout, topped by
Riley O'Connor and her nine points (five goals, four assists).
Shaine Sauter poured in a goal to go along with seven helpers and three ground balls.
Heather Devaney (six goals) and
Sabrina Chandler (five goals, assist) enjoyed six-point performances while
Isabel Raimondi dished three aiders.
Alexis Hahn corralled 11 saves in the GCU net to earn the complete-game victory.
Georgian Court defeated Dominican at home, 20-15, back on April 9 in the lone match-up of the season between the two squads.
