Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Upstart Dominican College, 20-15, to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

Lakewood, N.J. - In a contest between undefeated conference foes, it would be Georgian Court University that would reign supreme as the Lions knocked off Dominican College, 20-15, Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action.

The victory pushes GCU to a perfect 6-0 in CACC play (7-7 overall) as the royal-and-gold extends its CACC winning streak to 48-straight (including postseason). The Lions have averaged 19.3 goals-per-game over their six conference outings. The Chargers see their nine-game winning streak turn to dust as Dominican slides to 10-3 (5-1 CACC) on the year.

DC came out of the gates hot as the road team netted the first three scores of the game and owned a 6-4 edge with 11:14 remaining in the second period. Georgian Court proceeded to unleash a run of seven unanswered tallies to complete a nine-goal swing and take a commanding 11-6 lead at the half. GCU pumped up the surplus to a game-high eight-goal margin on three occasions in the second stanza, with the latest coming at the 8:06 mark of the fourth when a Shaine Sauter goal made the score 19-11 Lions.

The Chargers rallied to net four of the game's final five scores over the final 6:46, but the outcome was already well in hand for the home team.

Riley O'Connor recorded a stellar scoring line of six goals and a helper to top the victors with seven points on the afternoon. Sabrina Chandler followed with four goals off her own while Heather Devaney and Shaine Sauter contributed two tallies and two helpers apiece. Isabel Raimondi and Alyssa Wahl each enjoyed three-point performances with a goal and two aiders each. Kasha Elzinga and Jade Rivera each fired in two goals in the win.

Grace DeStasio (R-Fr., West Hempstead, N.Y.) accounted for four goals and three assists to pace the Chargers. Caitlin Costello (R-Fr., Seaford, N.Y.) followed with five points (4 G, A). The Lions edged Dominican in the shot column at 35-29 (28-22 on frame).

Alexis Hahn moves to 7-7 in the GCU net as the junior keeper collected seven saves in her 60:00. Kelsey Naclerio and Jessica Rogers each grabbed a pair of ground balls and recorded three caused turnovers as the duo anchored a pesky defensive line.

Georgian Court returns to play this Wednesday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. home game vs. CACC rival, Wilmington University, for the Lions' regular-season home finale.
