Lions Start Season 1-3 After Opening Weekend at Ramfest

West Chester, Pa – The Georgian Court University women's volleyball program opened their 2022 campaign this past weekend at Ramfest hosted by West Chester University.

GCU opened competition Friday afternoon as Franklin Pierce shut down the royal-and-gold, 0-3 (20-25, 13-25, 14-25) and the hosting Rams, 1-3 (14-25,29-27,13-25,18-25). "Overall, we still have much to work on from this weekend's matches," head coach Dan Sempkowski said. "We have shown some flashes of greatness but will have to find a way to be more consistent across the board. A few of our athletes had some standout moments, including Mateo and Woods, but generally, the program had contributions from everyone to keep us competitive."

The Lions returned to the floor Saturday morning, kicking off the day with a thrilling 3-1 triumph over Le Moyne College (25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-14). The lions later would endure another setback with a loss to Millersville University, 0-3 (21-25,14-25,11-25). Assistant coach Shana Rayside has this to say after this weekend "The team had tremendous energy throughout the weekend, especially bouncing back Saturday morning to earn a win vs. LeMoyne. Our athletes consistently supported each other during the weekend's highs and lows."

GCU now prepares to make its home debut Friday (3:00 p.m.) and Saturday as the Lions welcome The College of Saint Rose, Shepherd University, and Queens College to the Wellness Center Arena for the Georgian Court Invitational.
