Lions Upended By Panthers

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Adelphi Panthers Wednesday night, 6-0 at home. The loss puts the Lions record this season at 1-1-1 after three matches.

How it Happened
• The scoring started early for the Panthers, netting their first goal in the first minute. 
• GCU kept Adelphi off the board after that as they neared the end of the opening half, but goals in the 29th and 32nd minutes gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead at the break.
• Adelphi continued to pour the pressure on in the second half. The Panthers tallied a pair of goals in the 60th and 75th minutes.
• The Panthers added one more goal in the closing seconds to reach the 6-0 final.
• The Lions were on the defensive most of the night, getting outshot 23-2. 
• Both GCU shots were on net while the Panthers put 14 of their 23 on the keeper. 
• Each team played a clean match with GCU committing six fouls and the Panthers five.

Georgian Court Stat Leaders
• Jordyn Nelson and Brianna Hills were the two Lions who got off shot attempts. 
• Two Lions appeared in net. Carley Polchak made six saves and Alyssa Dias stopped two Panther shots.
• Corissa Robbins led the Lions playing 71 minutes.

For the Panthers
• Victoria Colatosti scored a pair of goals on four shots.
• Madison Apicella added a goal and two assists.
• Gia Mandile, Kendra Jimenez and Carly Issing all had a goal apiece. 
• Lydia Fraga Cordoba made two stops in net.

News and Notes
• This was the first appearance of the season for Carley Polchak. 
• The Lions had allowed two goals or fewer in each of their first two matches of the season.
• Georgian Court has just one non-conference game remaining before starting CACC play and three non-conference games left on the schedule.

• The Lions remain at home this weekend for a Saturday afternoon tilt with Frostburg State. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
