BLOOMFIELD, NJ (Jan. 21, 2023) - Bloomfield used a pair of 20-point quarters to put Georgian Court Women's Basketball away Saturday afternoon. The Bears outscored the Lions 45-23 in the second and third quarters of their 71-49 win. The loss snaps the Lions three game winning streak and drops them to 5-10 this season, 3-6 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• For the game, Bloomfield shot 45.5% overall compared to the Lions 34%. Neither team was able to get much done behind the arc as the Lions were 2-15 and the Bears 1-9.
• Underneath the basket is where the Bears did their damage. They pulled down 49 rebounds to the Lions 40 and outscored the Lions 44-28 in the paint.
• Turnovers were an issue on both sides. GCU lost the ball 19 times and Bloomfield 17. The Bears were able to convert those 19 turnovers into 20 points. Georgian Court scored just nine off turnovers.
• Bloomfield entered 11 into the game and scored 44 bench points. Georgian Court, due to injuries, played just seven and got zero points from off the bench.
• A lot of back-and-forth play early on. Georgian Court scored the first three points with an
A'nya Harper free throw and a
Paula Perez-Fabregas jumper. Bloomfield though answered scoring six straight to take a 6-3 lead.Â
•
Tian Addison gave GCU the lead back, 9-8, with a layup, then again, 13-12, with less than 20 seconds to go in the frame. In the closing seconds, the Bears just beat the buzzer as Tiara Mahorn laid it in for a 14-13 lead through 10 minutes.
• Bloomfield carried that momentum following the buzzer beater into the second quarter. They scored the first 14 points of the quarter as GCU was scoreless for 5:21 seconds. That opened up a 28-13 lead before
Jariah Patterson stopped the 16-0 run with a jumper.
• The Bears led by as much as 18 in the first half. Georgian Court was able to outscore Bloomfield 9-4 in the final three minutes, but still trailed by 13 at the break.
• Bloomfield scored the first four points in the second half, and with just under five minutes took a 20-point lead, 51-31, following a Daniya Darby jumper.Â
• The Bears were 18-33 overall in the second and third quarters and led by 23 after three quarters.
• Bloomfield's hot shooting didn't continue into the fourth quarter, but at that point, they were happy to trade baskets with the Lions which is what they did. GCU outscored the Bears 13-12 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough as the final horn sounded.
It Was Over When...
• Georgian Court went on a small run late in the third quarter, but over the final 3:53, Bloomfield outscored the Lions 8-1 to quell the comeback.
