Balanced Attack Leads Georgian Court Past Bridgeport

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Jan. 28, 2023) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball picked up their fifth win in six games as they blew past Bridgeport, leading end-to-end in a 77-59 win. The Lions improve to 7-10 on the season and are now just a game within .500 in the CACC at 5-6.

How it Happened
• The Lions enjoyed shooting on their home basket, hitting 48% overall and 47% from behind the arc. Bridgeport was sitting at just 38% overall and made 4-16 from three.
• Georgian Court kept the rebounding numbers close, 40-35 against one of the better rebounding teams in the league. 
• GCU controlled the ball about as well as they have all season, turning it over just 13 times. They also forced Bridgeport into 23.
• With those 23 turnovers came plenty of fast break points as the Lions scored 16 in transition.
• Blink and you may have missed the start. Georgian Court who have struggled at times to get going at the start of games, had no issue this afternoon. They scored the first 12 of the game as Paula Perez-Fabregas, Tian Addison and Jariah Patterson all sunk three pointers in the first three minutes.
• Bridgeport chipped away at the lead and was able to get back to single-digits, 21-12 following the first period. They cut that number down to five, 21-16, with 8:15 to go in the half following a pair of free throws.
• With the game still in single-digits, the Lions closed out the half on an 8-2 run over the final 1:56. GCU was 4-6 from the floor and forced four turnovers leading to six fast break points. After 20 minutes, Georgian Court led by 15, 41-26.
• Tian Addison made sure the second half started just like the first. On the first possession, she hit a three, then just seconds later came up with a steal and more transition baskets as she scored to put the Lions up 20, 46-26. 
• Bridgeport continued to fight. They scored the next nine making it an 11-point game, but were never able to get back to single digits. 
• With three minutes to play in the third and the lead still at 11, the Lions put the game away with an 11-2 run, all from Jariah Patterson and Savawn Hughes. Patterson hit a pair of three and Hughes added another to push the lead back to 20 heading to the fourth.
• The lead hovered around 20 the rest of the game with Bridgeport unable to get any closer in the 77-59 Lions win.

It Was Over When...
• With three minutes left in the third, GCU was up by 11. By the end of the period, that lead was 20 and Georgian Court was well on their way to a 77-59 win. Jariah Patterson and Savawn Hughes ignited the run with Patterson scoring six and Hughes adding five.

Lions Stat Leaders
• Jariah Patterson led all scorers with 23 points going 4-7 from three with five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
• Tian Addison nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine assists. She also grabbed three boards and three steals.
• Savawn Hughes also nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. 
• A'nyah Barker was 5-7 from the floor and 5-6 at the line for 15 points.
• A'nya Harper scored seven and pulled down seven rebounds.

For the Purple Knights
• Stephanie McBride led the Knights scoring 15 and grabbed 12 rebounds with three blocked shots.
• Amani Melendez was in double-figures with 11 points.
• Vienna Knox was a perfect 4-4 from the floor for 10 points.

News and Notes
• Patterson's 23 points are a new career-best. 
• Tian Addison surpassed 700 career points.
• Savawn Hughes also hit a milestone scoring her 500th career point.
• The Lions 13 turnovers are their second-fewest in the game this season.
• In the last two games, GCU has had their best and second-best field goal percentages. 
• This was the third time the Lions shot better than 40% from three and their 47.1% is a season-best.

• Georgian Court will take a week off and return to play next Saturday, Feb. 4 against Dominican at 12 p.m.
