LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 14, 2023) - Georgian Court Volleyball put in work early in the morning. They had a 10 a.m. start and after getting off to a slow start in set one, GCU settled in and eventually took care of Bloomfield 3-0 for their third straight win. The Lions won by scores of 25-22, 25-10, 25-16 and improve to 10-8 this season, 5-4 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• All the stats favored Georgian Court who hit .245 for the match. Their defense forced more Bloomfield errors than kills as the Bears hit -.049.
• There weren't as many service aces as GCU had been accustomed to. The Lions hit six and Bears just three.
• The match did feature 15 total blocks with GCU leading 8-7.
• The Bears picked up more digs, 35-32.
Set 1
• The first set saw five of the seven total tie scores and two lead changes.
• With the set tied at seven, Bloomfield went on a brief run and led by three, 14-11.
• The Bears pushed the lead to as much as five, 21-16 before the Lions stormed back.
• GCU closed the set scoring nine of the final 10 points.
Amiyah Woods gave the Lions their first lead since 7-6 with a kills at 23-22.
Nylene Mateo scored a service ace and an attack error gave the set to the Lions, 25-22.
Set 2
• The second set was all Lions from the start. They carried their momentum from their set one win and jumped out to an 8-1 lead.
• Between the end of set one and start of set two, GCU scored 17-of-19 points.

Iciar Zayas and
Giorgia Cappelletti each had service aces and Mateo and
Martina Croce each had a kill.
• The Lions were able to cruise to a 25-10 win to take a 2-0 lead. They hit .320 in the set while Bloomfield hit -.208 with four kills and nine errors.
Set 3
• Tied at two at the start, Georgian Court went on a 10-0 run to take a commanding 12-2 lead.Â

Martina Croce had three kills during the run and
Amiyah Woods put down back-to-back solo blocks.
• From there the teams traded points which was all the Lions needs to do for a 25-16 win.

Amiyah Woods put the finishing touches on the match with a kill. The Bears again were in the negative hitting -.192.
Lion Stat Leaders

Nylene Mateo had a match-high 11 kills and hit .176. She added eight digs, three blocks and a service ace.

Giorgia Cappelletti was also in double-figures with 10 kills hitting .471.
•
Amiyah Woods hit .545 with seven kills on 11 attempts with five blocks.
•
Martina Croce chipped in eight kills.
•
Iciar Zayas passed out 34 assists.
•
Carmen Rivera led the Lions with nine digs.
For the Bears
• Amanda Arroyo had a team-best seven kill hitting .143. She also led the team with 11 assists.
• Kyomaris Morales finished with seen digs and three blocks.
• Lauryn Hansford added two kills, eight assists and eight digs.

• The Lions three straight wins match a season-high win streak.
• This is the fourth straight match GCU has hit .200 or better.
• GCU snapped a two-game losing streak to the Bears and are now 21-12 all-time against Bloomfield.
