Women's Soccer Picks Up Another Win at Felician

RUTHERFORD, NJ (Oct. 17, 2023) - Georgian Court Soccer picked up an important win Tuesday afternoon. In a makeup game from earlier in the year, the Lions played a Tuesday matinee at Felician where they came away with a 3-1 win. The win puts them at 4-4-6 overall and they remain unbeaten in CACC games this season, improving to 3-0-5.

How it Happened
• The Lions controlled play and were on offense for a majority of the game.
• GCU totaled 21 shots, 11 on goal, while Felician was held to 11 attempts, six on target.
• Georgian Court forced six corner kicks, three in each half, without surrendering one for 90 minutes.
• Each team was called for a fair amount of fouls. Georgian Court was called for nine and the Golden Falcons seven.
• At the start, Felician had the Lions back on their heels a bit. The Golden Falcons had three shots in the first eight minutes.
• After the Lions were able to weather the storm a bit, it was their turn to go on offense. They strung together quality passes and Emily Clayton was able to connect for her first goal of the season. The double assists went to Ashley Merizalde and Izzy Hernandez.
• After the goal, it was all GCU the rest of the half. They outshot Felician 7-0 over the final 20 minutes.
• Georgian Court was still looking for that two-goal lead midway through the second half.
• They finally found it after a corner kick. Juliana Rettino's header from the corner hit the crossbar but stayed in play and Bridgette King was there to clean up the rebound for a 2-0 lead.
• Now trailing 2-0, Felician put three shots on net that Emma Bennett was able to corral. She couldn't get the fourth one though and with 6:36 remaining, it was back to a one-goal game as Victoria Drotos scored for the Golden Falcons.
• GCU nearly put the game away twice. In a 13 second span, Rettino and Aliya Canfield both hit the cross bar.
• With two minutes to play a foul gave the Lions a free kick in the offensive zone. Emily Clayton stepped up and connected on a rocket that was perfectly placed inside the far post for her second goal of the game. That put GCU back up two and they could breathe easier for the final two minutes until time expired.
