Lions Post Shutout of Bloomfield 3-0

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (Oct. 7, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer posted their first shutout win of the season Saturday afternoon defeating Bloomfield 3-0. The Lions scored 10 minutes into the match and made that stand up adding two more second half goals. With the win, GCU is now 3-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court tripled up the Bears in shots 18-6 and doubled them in shots on goal 8-4.
• The Lions earned 12 corner kicks in the match as they played most of the match in the offensive zone.
• There were only two cards issued in the match, one for each side. Georgian Court was whistled for 11 fouls and the Bears nine.
• Mathias Madersbacher tested the Bloomfield goalkeeper less than 30 seconds into the match. Jomar Vizcaino was up to the task making the save and then another two minutes later on Joseph Ficarotta's shot attempt.
• Fabio Krissler was also tested early, making his first save less than five minutes in.
• Right around the 10 minute mark, Sam Thombs intercepted a Bloomfield pass at the top of the box. He took a touch to settle the ball and fired a shot. His shot short-hopped right in front of the keeper and bounced over his arms and into the net for a 1-0 Lion lead.
• The half ended that way with both team's goaltenders making saves down the stretch.
• Georgian Court really took over in the second half. Of their 18 shots, 10 came in the final 45 and they held the Bears to just one shot.
• GCU was playing in the offensive zone nearly the entire half, but at the start, were unable to extend their lead.
• That changed in the 63rd minute. Alessandro Cavallini sent a cross into the box where David Tuschmann got a head on it to redirect it past Vizcaino, giving the Lions that two-goal lead.
• Following the goal, Bloomfield had their best opportunity to score in the half. Fabio Krissler made a save and the Bears earned two corner kicks but couldn't cut the GCU lead in half.
• With 90 seconds left to play, a foul inside the box put Cole Sullivan on the line for a penalty kick. The freshman calmly went low to the right and Vizcaino guessed wrong giving Sullivan his fourth goal of the season.
