Wright, Jr.'s Game-Winning Three Completes Lions Comeback

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 18, 2023) - Clint Wright, Jr. capped off a 14-point comeback win for Georgian Court Men's Basketball on their home court Saturday evening with a game-winner three-pointer with just 1.3 seconds left to play. The basket unbroke a 67-all tie, giving the Lions their first win of the season.

It Was Over When...
• Although Wright, Jr.'s basket gave GCU the lead, there was still 1.3 seconds left on the clock. Jalen Bryant heaved a half-court shot that hit off the glass and fell to the floor as the Lions celebrated win number one this season.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court had the hot hand especially in the second half. They shot 44% overall, 43.5% from three. In the second half though, the Lions were 17-29 and 8-13 from behind the arc.
• Kutztown shot just a tick under 40% for the game and were just 5-18 from three.
• At the foul line, Kutztown was 16-22 while GCU was 8-16.
• The Golden Bears had the edge on the glass though 44-31. They grabbed 12 offensive rebounds for 11 second-chance points.
• GCU limited turnovers to just 14 while Kutztown lost it 17 times. 
• The Lions scored plenty in transition getting 17 fast-break points.
First Half
• After Kutztown took and 8-6 lead with 16:18 left in the first half, they led straight through to halftime.
• The game was tied at six, but the Golden Bears used a 10-2 run to gain a 16-6 advantage and held the Lions scoreless for more than three minutes.
• A three-ball gave Kutztown a double-digit lead for the first time, 24-14, but the Lions got hot shortly after.
• GCU scored eight straight in 1:39, getting four points from Khalil Baker.
• Kutztown though weathered the storm and finished the half on a 7-0 run over the final 3:36 to lead 33-24 at the half.
Second Half
• The start to the second wasn't great for Georgian Court. Kutztown started the half on a 9-4 run and at 16:54 took their largest lead, 42-28.
• The Lions started chipping away starting with a three from Wright, Jr. Another Wright, Jr. three brought the lead under 10 with 14:44 to play.
• Kutztown pushed their lead back to 10, but a free throw and back-to-back three's from Wright and Cameron Edmonds made it just a three-point lead with 12:24 left.
• The Golden Bears kept GCU at arm's length for much of the half. The Lions tied it on multiple occasions only for the Golden Bears to reclaim the lead with a bucket on the other end.
• An Edmonds layup with 3:14 to play gave GCU their first lead since 5-3 early in the first half.
• Edmonds layup came in the midst of a 9-0 run over 2:27 as the Lions went from down two to up seven, 67-60 with just two minutes left.
• Kutztown though rallied, helped out by GCU going 0-2 from the floor, 0-2 at the line and turning the ball over once. Jalen Bryant made a spinning, driving layup with eight seconds left, tying the game at 67.
• On the ensuing possession, Edmonds found Wright on the left wing who let one fly and hit nothing but net with 1.3 seconds remaining.
• The Golden Bears' desperation three to tie bounced off the backboard and Georgian Court walked away with a 70-67 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Clint Wright, Jr. led all scorers with 26 points going 9-16 overall and 8-14 from three.
• Amari Jones finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
• Khalil Baker scored 10 with six boards.
• Donavin Crawford added eight points and four assists.
• Cameron Edmonds scored eight with four assists and three rebounds.

For the Golden Bears
• Jalen Bryant scored 17 with seven rebounds.
• Yahmir Satterfield added 14 going 3-5 from deep.
• Kameron Roberts scored 11 with six rebounds.
• Tyler Koenig grabbed a game-high 11 boards and scored eight.

News and Notes
• Wright, Jr. matches his own school record hitting eight three-pointers in a game. He was the first to ever do it, now he's the first to ever do it twice.
• Of his eight three-pointers, six game in the second half.
• Georgian Court basketball has had some incredible finishes against Kutztown. In addition to tonight's win, last season, the Imani Gillette of the women's team hit a buzzer beater against the Golden Bears to lift GCU to a win.
• The Lions are now 2-0 all-time against Kutztown with wins in each of the last two seasons.
