Lions Drop D1 Game at Fordham

BRONX, NY (Nov. 21, 2023) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball leveled up Monday night taking on Division I Fordham. The Rams got out to a hot start and led throughout in their 85-44 victory over Georgian Court.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court shot below 30% hitting 17-58 and were just 3-21 from down town.
• Fordham was 50% from the floor and 8-20 from three-point-land.
• The Rams held the edge rebounding at 44-35.
• The Lions turned the ball over 20 times while led to 17 points for the Rams.
• Fordham did work after misses. They scored 21 second-chance points.
1st Quarter
• It was Georgian Court who got on the board first as Niyell McCargo hit a three.
• Fordham answered with a triple of their own and that kicked off a 17-0 run for the Rams.
• GCU didn't score until 3:43 to play in the period and Fordham led the rest of the game.
2nd Quarter
• Just like the first quarter, the second quarter scoring started with a three from the Lions. Jada Jacobs buried this one to get GCU to double-digits.
• The second was the best quarter for the Lions as they scored 15 points and shot 40% overall.
• They weren't able to make up any ground on the Rams though and trailed 41-22 at the half.
3rd Quarter
• Fordham pushed the lead in the third quarter scoring 23 points in the period.
• A jumper in the closing seconds made ita 64-35 lead.
4th Quarter
• Fordham started the fourth on an 11-0 run, pushing the lead to 40, 75-35.
• The Rams led for nearly 95% of the game, rolling to an 85-44 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Niyell McCargo led GCU scoring nine points with five rebounds on 4-8 shooting.
• Jada Jacobs scored eight going 1-1 from three.
• Jessenia Edwards also scored eight with five boards. She shot 4-7 from the floor.

For the Rams
• Mandy McGurk scored a game-high 15 going 3-5 from three.
• Taya Davis filled the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
• Kaila Berry and Maranda Nyborg were each a rebound shy of a double-double. Berry scored 11 while Nyborg added 10.

News and Notes
• The Lions played nine tonight. All but one is new to the roster in 2023-24 and those eight were true freshmen.
• This was the first ever meeting between Georgian Court and Fordham.

Up Next
• Georgian Court has a chance to rebound tomorrow night. They play at the University of the District of Columbia tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. to complete their season-opening five-game road trip.
