Men's Basketball Starts Season Home vs. No. 16 Bentley

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 10, 2023) - The 2023-24 Men's Basketball season is officially here! The Lions kick off their season this weekend at the Wellness Center.

Previously vs. Bentley
• The Lions and Falcons have only met once previously.
• That came exactly six years ago to the day of their game this weekend.
• On that day in Waltham, Mass., Bentley put up 100, defeating GCU 100-54.
• Caleb Bowser and Nikola Vujovic each scored 11 for the Lions. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court made their second all-time postseason appearance.
• The Lions finished third in the CACC South Division, their highest finish in program history.
• In the CACC Tournament, GCU drew No. 2 seed in the North Bloomfield.
• Bloomfield jumped out to a 57-39 lead in the first half and went on to win 91-74.
• Clint Wright, Jr. scored 19.

Individual Milestones
• Clint Wright, Jr. needs one point to get to 900 for his career.
• Donavin Crawford is nine points shy of 100. 
• Cameron Edmonds will hit 20 steals with two more. 

Scouting the Lions
• Georgian Court Men's Basketball was picked to finish in fourth place in the CACC South Division.
• A year ago, GCU was 8-9 in league play and 12-16 overall setting program records for wins.
• The Lion roster has 21 players and 13 are brand new to the program.
• The only upperclassman on the team who played in 2022-23 was Clint Wright, Jr. who scored 15.5 points per game and was over 40% shooting from three.
• Other returning upperclassmen Nasir Mclean and Donavin Crawford had redshirt years in 2022-23.
• Georgian Court is boosted by the return of four sophomores. Cameron Edmonds, Hassan Jackson, Justin Soranno and Andrew Tummings, Jr. all played last year. Edmonds was third on the team scoring 8.5 points per game with 41 three-pointers.
• Soranno dealt with injuries and missed time, but shot 52.7% in the 11 games he did play. Jackson and Tummings both played roles as well.
• The roster holds nine true freshman in addition to transfers Joseph Fresco, Amari Jones, Kamaal Cox and Anthony Rivera. 

About Bentley
• Bentley has been an East Region powerhouse for a long time. 
• Last year the Falcons finished 23-7 and 15-5 in the Northeast-10.
• They fell to St. Anselm in the NE10 conference semifinals, but advanced to the East Region final where they lost to New Haven. 
• Bentley scored the most points in the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll to sit at the top of the rankings. They are also ranked 16th to start the season in the NABC Division II poll.
• Two starters come back for this season in All-American Zach Laput and senior Aaron Latham. Laput is a 1,000 point scorer who averaged 20.4 and 6.9 rebounds last year.
• Latham led the Falcons with 105 assists and 36 steals with averaging double-figure points.
• The Falcons have already started their season. They go from Lakeland, Florida to Lakewood, NJ. Bentley defeated Colorado School of Mines in their season opener 69-51, but lost to Missouri-St. Louis 76-73.
• Laput so far is scoring 20 points per game and shooting 46.7% from the floor. Ivan Misic and Aaron Latham are also in double-figures.
