WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 17, 2023) - It had been more than two weeks since Georgian Court last played due to cancelations and postponements, but the Lions finally got their game in with New Haven, albeit a week later than originally scheduled. New Haven never trailed in the game, jumping out to a large lead and handing the Lions a 74-45 loss on the road.
How it Happened
• New Haven shot 50% overall hitting 32-64 while GCU shot 34.5% from the floor.
• Neither team shot well from behind the arc. The Chargers were 3-18 from distance and the Lions 3-13.
• Fouls were kept to a minimum. The two teams combined for just 16 free throw attempts and 25 personal fouls.
• Georgian Court turned the ball over 22 times and that led to 28 UNH points.
• The Lions won the rebounding battle 40-34 and 10-4 on the offensive end.
1st Quarter
• New Haven started the game on an 8-0 run.
• Georgian Court got a point at three free throw line, as they started 0-6 from the floor.
• The Chargers started the game 7-8 and led 17-1.
• UNH didn't let off the gas. They were 14-16 in the first quarter and 4-4 at the line as they led 33-7 after 10 minutes.
2nd Quarter
• Things picked up for GCU in the second quarter. After going 3-15 in the first, they shot 7-19 in the second.
• The Lions outscored New Haven 15-10 in the period.
• Over the final 6:09 of the half, the Lion defense held New Haven to just two points as the Lions closed on an 11-2 run.

Niyell McCargo scored eight points during the run as the Lions were 5-13 and the Chargers just 1-8.
• Despite the 11-2 scoring run to end the half, GCU still trailed at intermission 43-22.
3rd Quarter
• The Lions started the second half slow as well. New Haven scored the first four points as the Lions went nearly five minutes before scoring.
• After that though, Georgian Court scored seven straight capped off by a
Safiatu Kolliegbo three-pointer.
• The teams traded points the rest of the quarter and after three, UNH was up 60-38.
4th Quarter
• Georgian Court couldn't get back into the game in the fourth quarter. Like the first they scored just seven points making three field goals.
• New Haven finished the game scoring the final six points and held GCU scoreless over the last 3:12.
• UNH led by 26 after the first and won by 29, 74-45.
Lion Stat Leaders

Niyell McCargo picked up a double-double and scored a career-high. She scored 18 with 12 boards.
•
Samantha Jones scored seven on 3-5 shooting with three rebounds.
•
Marta Guilera scored four with eight rebounds and three assists.
•
Safiatu Kolliegbo was also in double-figures scoring 11 with seven rebounds.
For the Chargers
• Charlotte Bassett led all scorers with 22 points going 9-16 from the field.
• Aurora Deshaies was 9-11 and recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
• Nayeli Dowding chipped in 11 points.
• Gabrielle Stickle dished out eight assists with six points and four steals.

Niyell McCargo had the Lions second double-double of the season. Her 12 rebounds are a single-game high for GCU.
• Georgian Court falls to 1-3 against New Haven all-time having dropped three straight.
• After trailing 33-7 after one, the Lions were just minus-three points the rest of hte way.

• Georgian Court finishes up their first semester of games at home Tuesday afternooon for a matinee against Assumption. The Lions will be hosting local elementary school for a 12 p.m. tipoff.
