Softball Picks Up Pair of Wins at NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. (Feb. 25, 2023) - Georigan Court Softball enjoyed a great day giving up just four runs in two games while scoring 13 in a pair of wins. The Lions first picked up a 1-0 win over West Chester in a pitcher's dual. The bats then got going in game two, a 12-4, five-inning win over Le Moyne. The win puts the Lions at 6-3 this season heading into the final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

Game 1 Georgian Court 1, West Chester 0
How it Happened

• There were plenty of baserunners,  but not enough clutch hits. The Lions collected 11 base knocks to the Golden Rams four.
• Georgian Court left 10 runners on base while the Golden Rams stranded 12.
• Neither team committed an error in a clean defensive game.
Maddie Rabe put the first two runners on to face her, but worked out of the 2nd and 3rd, no out jam without allowing a run to keep the game scoreless.
• In the fourth it was the Lions turn to leave two runners in scoring position. After Savannah Simons and Kaitlyn Stufft executed a double steal of second and third. West Chester got out of the inning with three consecutive pop ups to the short stop.
Maddie Rabe worked into and out of trouble again in the fifth. With two outs, West Chester had three straight reach to load the bases. Rabe got a first-pitch foul pop up to first though to end the inning as we were scoreless through six.
• An inning later, West Chester again put two on, but Haley Korsak came in to end the threat getting a groundout and a pop up to end the inning.
• Thanks to Jadalynn Rodriguez, Georgian Court finally put a run on the board. She led off the inning with a hustle double into right center field. With one out, Adriana Mungo put the ball in play and Rodriguez did the rest. A slow roller up the middle found the outfield and Rodriguez running hard all the way scored on the shallow single.

Lion Stat Leaders
Adriana Mungo was 3-3 with the lone RBI. She also drew a walk.
Maddie Rabe threw the first 5.1 innings giving up just four hits. She walked six, but didn't allow a run to get the no decision.
Haley Korsak pitched the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit or a run to get the win.
Jadalynn Rodriguez had two hits including a double and a run scored.
Savannah Simons was 2-4 with a stolen base.

For the Golden Rams
• G. Aguilar reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
• M. Melvin and Rittenbaugh each had a hit a walk and a stolen base.
• S. Klug started and totaled 3.2 innings without allowing a run.
• M. Edwards took the loss in relief giving up a run on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two Georgian Court 12, Le Moyne 4 - 5 Innings
How it Happened

• Game two was all GCU. They scored the first 12 runs in the game and collected 12 runs on 14 hits.
• Le Moyne scored all their runs in the fourth and fifth innings when GCU emptied their bench.
• Georgian Court committed one error in the field while the Dolphins made three.
• After Le Moyne got the leadoff hitter out to start the top of the first, GCU put the next three on to load the bases and Kaitlyn Stufft unloaded them. She went long to straight away center for a grand slam and a 4-0 Lion lead.
• Georgian Court poured on three more in the second. Back-to-back singles from Jadalynn Rodriguez and Taylor Lipkins started the frame before Adriana Mungo drove them both home with a triple to right center.
• The Lions base-running kept putting more runs on the board. They tacked on three more in the third and two in the fourth. Three of the four Lion runs were unearned as they took advantage of some Dolphin defensive miscues.
• Down 12-0 Le Moyne ruined the shut out bid in the fourth on an RBI double. They got three in the fifth with a two-out, two RBI double cutting the lead to 12-4.
• Another run would have forced another inning, but with runners on second and third, Sam Hildebrant got a line out to first to end the game.

Alyssa Herrera was 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
