Lions Drop Season Finale at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2023) - In a close game that saw neither team lead by more than seven, Georgian Court fell just a little short in their regular season finale at Chestnut Hill. After grabbing a late one-point lead, the Griffins held the Lions scoreless the final 2:13 as Chestnut Hill came out with a 62-59 win. The loss puts the Lions regular season mark at 10-13 and 8-9 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court finished the game shooting 42% overall. They were just 4-13 from three and 9-16 at the free throw line.
• Chestnut Hill shot just 37% going 3-12 from downtown, making 11-13 at the line. 
• Rebounding was key for the Griffins as they came down with 44 to GCU's 31. Of those 44, 12 were offensive and led to 15 second-chance points.
• While Georgian Court turned the ball over just 10 times, CHC lost it just seven and doubled up the Lions 14-7 in points off turnovers.
Jariah Patterson scored five of first six points for the Lions.
• The two teams were going back and forth for a bit. GCU had the lead, 14-13 in the final minute of the first, but a Bri Hewlett jumper with eight seconds left gave Chestnut Hill a 15-14 lead after one.
• Chestnut Hill took their largest lead of the half, 30-24, with 2:34 to play in the first half.
• The Lions got to within two, 30-28, but another late Griffin basket made it a four-point game, 32-28 at intermission.
• The Griffins buried a three on their first possession to take a 35-28 lead.
• Georgian Court stayed close though and Tian Addison tied the game at 38-all with a three to cap a 10-3 run.
• Another Addison three gave the Lions their first lead since late in the first quarter, 43-42 with 3:11 to play in the third quarter.
• The teams traded the lead back-and-forth at the end of the third. With GCU leading by one, Chestnut Hill reclaimed a 49-48 lead thanks to an offensive rebound and buzzer beating layup from Emily Chiel.
• The Lions started the fourth on a 9-3 run and went up by five, 57-52 midway through the fourth.
• Chestnut Hill though scored six straight to a take a 58-57 lead with 2:47 left to play.
• Addison responded with a jumper giving GCU a 59-58 lead with 2:13 left. That was the last time the Lions scored though.
• The Griffins held them scoreless over the final 2:13. CHC took the lead with 1:12 left sinking a pair of free throws.
• Trailing by three, 62-59, GCU had one final chance. Savawn Hughes missed a jumper with five seconds left. The ball went out of bounds to the Lions. Tian Addison looked to tie with a three but the ball stayed out and game ended 62-59.

It Was Over When...
• This one came down to the end with Chestnut Hill surviving as Tian Addison's last second three-point attempt to tie was off the mark.

Lions Stat Leaders
Tian Addison was in double-figures with 18 points going 3-6 from three and 7-11 overall.
A'nya Harper scored 15 points off the bench going 5-7 from the floor.
Jariah Patterson finished with seven points and four rebounds and four blocked shots.
Savawn Hughes scored seven as well.

For the Griffins
• Emily Chmiel scored a game-high 19 points with 12 rebounds. Ten of those 12 boards were offensive.
• Leah Miller added eight poitns and eight rebounds.
• Abbey Spratt scored seven with six assists and four boards.

News and Notes
Jariah Patterson's four blocked shots are the most by a Lion this season.
A'nya Harper scored her 150th career point.

• Georgian Court is in a rematch of the 2022 CACC Tournament First Round. As the number four seed in the south, they will travel to take on the number one seed in the north, Post, Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
