PEMBROKE, NC (March 1, 2023) - Georgian Court Softball picked up their fifth straight win in game number against UNC-Pembroke. The Braves though came back to win game two as the Lions split the doubleheader. GCU stands at 8-4 on the season.
Game 1 - Georgian Court 10, UNC-Pembroke 3
How it Happened
• Georgian Court led just two batters into the game. They scored 10 runs on eight hits.
• The Braves scored three late on nine hits.
• The Lions took advantage of six Brave errors scoring three unearned runs. GCU played a clean game defensively.
• Pembroke left eight runners on base while GCU stranded three.
• Of the Lions eight hits, four were for extra bases. UNC-Pembroke had two of nine hits go for extra bases.

Taylor Lipkins led off the game with a walk and
Adriana Mungo drove her in with a triple and two batters in GCU led 1-0.
Kaitlyn Stufft drove in Mungo with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
• The Lions tacked on two more in the third.
Jadalynn Rodriguez led off with a single and this time it was Lipkins turn to triple in a run. She drove in Rodriguez and scored herself on a throwing error.
• Lipkins added another RBI an inning later driving in
Maddie Rabe with an infield single.
• Pembroke finally got on the board scoring three in the third on a three-run home run.
Kiara Meikle answered with a two-run shot of her own in the sixth.
• Helped out by two errors, the Lions plated three runs in the seventh to get to 10 runs.
Lion Stat Leaders

Taylor Lipkins was all over the place going 2-3 at the plate with two runs, two RBI, a triple and a stolen base.

Kiara Meikle reached twice with a home run and a walk.

Adriana Mungo finished 2-4 at the dish with a run and an RBI triple.

Jadalynn Rodriguez each had a hit and a run.

Maddie Rabe got the start pitching the first four innings allowing just three hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Haley Korsak finished the game throwing the final three innings giving up just three hits.
For the Braves
• K. Sheppard homered and drove in all three Pembroke runs.
• S. Allred reached base all four times with two singles and two walks.
• M. Wilkes was 2-3 with a run scored.
• M. Dyson tossed the first four innings giving up five runs, four earned on four hits with three walks.
Game Two - UNC Pembroke 8, Georgian Court 5
How it Happened
• Pembroke used the long ball to get ahead in game two. They finished with seven hits, four for extra bases with two homers.
• Georgian Court again didn't commit an error in the field.
• The Braves stranded just one baserunner while GCU left seven on.
• Pembroke scored a run in the first without needing a hit. A leadoff walk to Sheppard who then stole second. She took third on a fly ball and scored on an RBI groundout.
• The Braves then added three all with two outs in the third. An RBI double made it 2-0 and one batter later, Allred homered to make it 4-0.
• Pembroke got their second home run in as many innings and again put three on the board with two outs. With two out and two on, Wilkes hit a three-run shot and the Braves extended their lead to 7-0.
• Georgian Court though battled back in the fifth. Mungo hit another triple to drive in Lipkins and
Alyssa Herrera followed with with an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game.
• Still batting,
Taylor Barraza singled to drive in a pair. GCU then scored their fifth run of the inning on a Brave error as
Kayla Ryan crossed the plate.
• The inning ended after GCU scored five, but it could have been more. With runners on the corners, Rodriguez appeared to beat out an infield single, but was called out and the inning ended with the Lions down 7-5.
• The Braves got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
• Georgian Court threatened again in the sixth. Lipkins led off with a single and stole second. Mungo roped another liner, but the Brave shortstop made a diving catch to her left and was able to double-up Lipkins.
• GCU didn't get another hit the rest of the way and the Braves escaped with a split and an 8-5 win.

• The winning team was out-hit in both games.
• GCU struck out just four times, and not once in game two.
• Georgian Court hasn't committed an error in four straight games.
