SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 1, 2023) - In a battle of Lions, it was No. 20 Saint Leo who came out on top Wednesday evening. Saint Leo got on top early using a big first period for a 14-6 win. Georgian Court falls to 1-3 with the loss.
How it Happened
• Shot numbers were fairly even with Saint Leo holding a 32-25 edge. Saint Leo though was much more on target with their shots, hitting the net on 27 of 32 while GCU had 14 of their 25 go on goal.
• Saint Leo held a big advantage on the draw. They won 17-of-25 and were successful on all 19 clears.
• Georgian Court picked up more ground balls, 14-11.
• Turnovers were fairly even. GCU lost the ball 13 times and Saint Leo 11.
• Saint Leo attempted nine free-position shots and hit on five. GCU was 1-of-4.
• Just 64 seconds into the game, Saint Leo got on the board for an early 1-0 lead.

Isabel Raimondi on the advantage tied the game at 1-1.
• Saint Leo answered with a goal with the advantage themselves. That started a stretch of six straight Saint Leo goals to finish the first.
• Saint Leo scored seven in the opening period, half of their total for the game.
• Georgian Court scored just once in each of the first three quarters.
Alyssa Wahl tallied a goal in the second, but at the half GCU trailed 9-2.
• The GCU defense performed well in the final 45 minutes, giving up just seven goals and five in the second half.
