Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Just Short in Comeback Bid

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY (March 12, 2023) - Trailing by five at the break, Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse fought their way back to get to within one, but could never draw back even with Molloy who survived for a one-goal win, 14-13. The loss is the Lions fifth in six games to start the season.

How it Happened
• As the score would indicate, the final numbers were all very even. Molloy held a 36-30 advantage in shots, but GCU was more accurate putting 24-of-30 on net. Molloy hit the net on 25-of-36 shots.
• Each team's keeper made 11 saves in net.
• Molloy was the better team on the ground, scooping 18 ground balls to Georgian Court's 13. GCU was better off the draw though, winning 17-of-30.
• Georgian Court had issues hanging onto the ball. They turned it over 21 times and were 11-of-16 on clears. Molloy lost the ball 14 times, converting 14-of-18 clear attempts.
• Each team got on the board with a free-position goal just 35 seconds apart in a low-scoring first quarter. Both teams put just one more goal on the board in the quarter and after 15 minutes, the game was tied at two.
• The second quarter is where Molloy made their run. They scored seven goals, getting their first three in less than a two minute span. Molloy made it 6-2 before Riley O'Connor scored her third goal of the game with the player-advantage to make it a 6-3 contest.
• Molloy outscored GCU 7-2 in the second when it was all said and done and took a 9-4 lead into the half.
• GCU started their comeback early in the third. O'Connor scored the first two in the half to get to within three, 9-6.
• Still trailing by three, 10-7, Isabel Raimondi caused a turnover with under 10 seconds left and a Molloy foul gave O'Connor a free-position shot with just four seconds left in the quarter. She rushed in and beat the goalkeeper and it was just a two-goal game, 10-8, heading into the fourth.
• Molloy created some breathing room scoring the first two goals and were back up four, 12-8, with 11:46 to play.
• GCU responded with three straight, getting one apiece from O'Connor, Jade Rivera and Remi Reinhardt, to trail by just one with 4:45 left.
• Each time GCU got to within one, Molloy had the answer. Twice Reinhardt scored to cut the Molloy lead to one and each time Molloy scored less than a minute later.
• Reinhardt scored her third straight to make it a 14-13 game with 1:07 left to play. The important draw control went to Molloy and they played chase for the final minute as the clock expired.
