Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 25, 2023) - On a dreary and wet afternoon in Connecticut, Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse and Bridgeport met for the first time as CACC foes. Georgian Court never trailed in the game, scoring the first six on their way to a 20-12 win. The win is the Lions third straight, a season-high, and moves them to 4-5 on the season, 3-0 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court ripped 32 shots with 29 coming on goal and 20 finding the back of the net. Bridgeport took 23 shots with 17 on net and 12 goals.
• Draw control was even with GCU coming up with 19 and Bridgeport 17.
• Bridgeport committed 25 fouls and GCU was 4-8 on free position shots. The Lions committed 15 fouls with Bridgeport converting on 4-6 free position shots.Â
• Ground balls favored Georgian Court who grabbed 23 to the Purple Knight's 18. GCU caused 15 turnovers and Bridgeport forced 10 from the Lions.Â
• Georgian Court wasted no time getting out in front. They scored the first six goals of the game.Â
• Five different Lions scored the first five goals:
Isabel Raimondi,
Remi Reinhardt,
Caitlin Petrellese,
Alyssa Wahl and
Riley O'Connor.Â
• O'Connor's goal was her 30th of the season and her third straight season scoring 30.
• After GCU got out in front 6-0, the Purple Knights finished the first quarter outscoring GCU 4-2 in the final 7:30 as the first ended 8-4 in favor of the Lions.Â
• Raimondi made it a hat trick scoring early in the second.Â
• Georgian Court outscored Bridgeport 5-2 in the second as they pushed their lead to 13-6 at the half. Wahl scored a free-position goal and O'Connor scored with the player advantage.Â
• For the third straight quarter, Raimondi found the back of the net in the first two minutes. O'Connor made it a 15-6 game putting GCU up nine, but Bridgeport kept the game below a 10-goal deficit.
• The Purple Knights scored both with a player up and a player down in the final 3:15 to close the gap to seven, 16-9 with one quarter left to play. The player-up goal came with just 28 seconds left in the frame.
• Bridgeport cut the lead to six less than two minutes into the fourth. Wahl and Raimondi scored less than a minute apart to boost the lead back to eight and give GCU some more breathing room.Â
• Georgian Court finally pushed the lead to 10 midway through the fourth. O'Connor and Wahl scored just 48 seconds apart putting the Lions up 20-10.
• The Lions didn't score the final nine minutes but didn't have to. Bridgeport scored two more to close the game but it wasn't nearly enough in the 20-12 win.Â
