LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 11, 2023) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse allowed four first-period goals, then pitched shutouts in the second and third as they were on their way to a 17-7 win over Post. The win is the Lions second straight as they get over the .500 mark at 7-6 and are 6-1 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• The Lions won 19-of-28 draw controls as they maintained possession for much of the game.
• Georgian Court totaled 39 shots putting 31 on net and scoring 17 times. Post got off 24 shots, 20 on goal with seven goals scored.
• On the ground, GCU got to 17 ground balls and Post picked up 10.
• Turnover numbers were mostly even. Post lost the ball 12 times, GCU 10. The Lions were successful on 14-of-15 clear attempts and Post 17-of-22.
• The Lions scored two extra-player goals and three free-position goals. All three FPG came in the opening period.
First Half
• Georgian Court scored the first two goals of the game in the first three minutes.
Alyssa Wahl and
Isabel Raimondi got on the board for GCU and it was a quick 2-0 lead.
• Post answered though with two of their own and with a little under 10 minutes to play, the game was tied at two.
• A yellow card gave GCU a man-advantage and a free position shot. While FPS was credited to Raimondi, the foul drew blood and she was replaced by
Kate Clemente while Raimondi was attended to on the sideline by Athletic Trainer Emily Miglin.
• Clemente, seeing her first action against her former team, gave the Lions the lead, scoring on the free position attempt.
• Clemente wasn't finished though. This time down a player,
Jade Rivera scooped a ground ball turnover and Clemente did the rest, scoring her second straight.
• The two teams traded goals the rest of the period and GCU led 6-4 after one.
• Early in the second quarter, GCU had a chance to extend the lead with consecutive Post penalties giving the Lions a two-player advantage. Post though cleared both infractions and it was still a 6-4 game.
• Wahl finally made it a three-goal game with 9:45 to play before the half. The flood gates opened up after that as GCU scored four more times in the final 5:02 with four different Lions scoring: Raimondi,
Riley O'Connor,
Ashley Pringle and
Remi Reinhardt.Â
•
Alexis Hahn didn't allow a goal in the second and GCU led 11-4 at the break.
Second Half
• Hahn pitched another shutout in the third period and O'Connor scored all three goals for GCU as they went up by 10, 14-4 into the fourth.
• Post added a couple of goals late, but nothing that put the game into question.
