Ventresca Reaches Century Mark as Lions Win Fifth Straight

CALDWELL, NJ (April 15, 2023) - On a day when Georgian Court inducts its next class into the Athletic Hall of Fame, it's fitting that a future Lion Hall of Famer does something no other Lion ever has. Michael Ventresca scored his 100th career goal, the first Lion to ever do so in Georgian Court's 20-10 win over Caldwell. It's the Lions fifth straight win as they go to 8-5 and are still perfect at 4-0 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• To score more, it helps to be on offense more, and GCU spent plenty of time in the Cougars defensive end. GCU won 21-of-33 face-offs to get the offense going.
• From there, the Lions ripped off 68 shots compared to 29 for the Cougars.
• Caldwell also gave the ball up 26 times while GCU forced 12 turnovers. The Lions committed just 15 turnovers.
• It seemed like the ball was bouncing Georgian Court's way. They picked up 48 ground balls while Caldwell managed to get to just 21.
• Each team scored with the man-advantage. The Lions were called for three penalties totaling three minutes and the Cougars were dinged for two 30-second violations.

First Half
• Georgian Court scored the first five goals of the game. Vincent Giunta started it two-and-a-half minutes in on a feed from Tyler Burns.
• Just 40 seconds later, Michael Ventresca made it 2-0, scoring his 99th career goal.
• Goals from Kyle Harms, Burns and Doug Mackenzie made it 5-0. It looked like it might stay that way into the second quarter, but with just 36 seconds left Caldwell scored to make it a 5-1 game.
• Tallen Smith made it 6-1 early in the second but then the Cougars made a small run.
• Caldwell scored three straight in a 4:07 span to bring the lead down to just two, 6-4.
• The Lions answered with a 5-0 run of their own. Daniel Burnham and Ryan Rigby each took passes from Smith and found the net. The Burns brothers, Tyler and Vincent, scored back-to-back and Justin Iannarone, after winning a face-off, scored to put the Lions up 11-4.
• Caldwell popped two more and Giunta netted his second as the Lions were doubling up the Cougars, 12-6 at the half.

Second Half
• The Lions extended their lead in the third. Giunta completed the hat trick less than two minutes into the frame.
• It took a little while after scoring 99, but Michael Ventresca finally netted career goal number 100. He scored with 7:43 to play in the third and put GCU up 15-7.
• The teams traded goals the rest of the way which was alright by GCU. Burnham tallied his second of the game and James Sanford and Joe Zerr each picked up their first late in the fourth.
• Mackenzie capped the scoring with a man-up goal to get the Lions to 20.
