Lions Finish Unbeaten CACC Season; Capture Regular Season Title

HILLBURN, NY (April 28, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse completed the perfect CACC season going 7-0 in conference play following their 17-11 win over Dominican in the regular season finale. The win gives the Lions their second CACC regular season championship in program history. 

How it Happened
• Georgian Court totaled 52 shots in the win with 36 coming on target.
• Dominican finished with 40 shots and 25 on goal.2023-ML-CACC-Championship
• The Lions won 18-of-31 face-offs. There were 12-18 on clears while the Chargers were 13-15 on clear attempts.
• Ground ball numbers were close with GCU getting to 32 and Dominican 30.
• Dominican turned the ball over 18 times and GCU lost it 14.
• On the man-advantage, GCU was 3-4 and Dominican 2-4.
First Half
• Georgian Court started the scoring with a pair of early goals from Doug Mackenzie and Daniel Burnham. Mackenzie's was on the man-advantage.
• Dominican quickly tied the game and five minutes in, the game was knotted at two.
• The Lions then rattled off four straight goals and never looked back. Burnham and Brett Bridges each scored two goals.
• The Chargers scored with three seconds left in the first to make it a 6-3 game.
• In the second, Bridges and Joe Zerr putting GCU up five. They kept that lead into the half, 9-4.
Second Half
• GCU scored four of the first five goals in the half to extend their lead to eight, 13-5. Tallen Smith and Vincent Giunta each scored twice during the stretch.
• Trailing by eight, 14-6, Dominican scored four straight early lin the fourth quarter to get to within four, 14-10.
Tyler Burns and Joe Zerr on the man-up scored to put the game out of reach. Smith added another to get the Lions to the 17-11 final.

Lions Stat Leaders
Vincent Burkhart in goal made 14 saves with a .560 save percentage.
Daniel Burnham totaled four goals and three assists for seven points.
Brett Bridges and Tallen Smith each scored three goals.
Vincent Giunta scored five points with two goals and three assists.
Justin Iannarone was 14-21 on the draw with nine ground balls.
Joe Murphy secured four ground balls.

For the Chargers
• Steffen Peabody made 19 saves in goal.
• Kyle benedetto scored three goals with an assist.
• William Gordon totaled five points with two goals and three assists.
• Joseph DeGregorio grabbed five ground balls.
• Patrick Roderka was 13-29 on face-offs.

News and Notes
• The last Lions CACC regular season championship was in 2018, the first year the league sponsored men's lacrosse.
Daniel Burnham scored seven points and became the new all-time points leader at Georgian Court.
Vincent Burkhart won his 11th game, matching Austin Geissel for the most in a single season.
Michael Ventresca played in his 72nd career game, tying a program record.
