LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 3, 2023) It was a milestone filled afternoon for Georgian Court Softball as they swept Bloomfield with a pair of run-rule victories. Game one saw Lions Head Coach
Nicole Degenhardt earn career win No. 200 at Georgian Court and in the game two win, freshman pitcher
Janelle Blaszka threw a no-hitter.
Game 1 - Georgian Court 9, Bloomfield 1 - 6 Innings
How it Happened
• Georgian Court knocked 12 hits in game one, half of those going for extra-bases. Bloomfield managed just two which came in the later innings.
• GCU played a clean game in the field and while Bloomfield was charged with two errors, there were a handful of defensive plays that were not made which benefited the Lions.
• Bloomfield scored their only run of the afternoon in the very first inning and did so without the benefit of a hit. They loaded the bases getting two walks and a hit-by-pitch to start the game. A strikeout led to the first out of the inning but a sacrifice fly brought in the runner from the third. Coincidentally, GCU got out of the inning on that same sacrifice fly as the runner from first base was thrown out trying to advance, but after the run had already crossed the plate.
• The run was no problem for the Lions though as they got it right back in the home half of the first.
Taylor Lipkins led off with a single and stole second then came in to score on
Kaitlyn Stufft's pop fly that fell in for a hit.
•
Maddie Rabe settled in after that retiring the next 11 straight.

• Georgian Court plated two more runs on one swing as
Savannah Simons crushed a home run to left center for a 3-1 lead.
• Still working on a no hitter going into the sixth, the first hit Rabe allowed in real time came when Daniela Vidal's ground ball hit the base-runner Sierra Albritton which by rule is a single for the batter. Albritton's E8 from the at bat before Vidal was later changed to a hit giving Bloomfield two hits in the game.
• The Lions put the Bears away in the bottom of the sixth.
Taylor Barraza launched a solo shot to center.
Coco Dunham then tripled to score
Alyssa Herrera putting GCU up 5-1.
• Leading 6-1,
Adriana Mungo drove in Lipkins with a long double to center field. Simon's fly ball to the outfield was dropped allowing the inning to continue and Stufft finished the game with a hard-hit single up the middle and Simons ran home with the game-ending run.

Game 2 - Georgian Court 9, Bloomfield 0 - 5 Innings
How it Happened
• Georgian Court had another double-digit hit performance knocking 11 base hits with three of the extra-base variety.
• Bloomfield drew two walks for their only base runners.
• The Lions played another error-free game in the field while Bloomfield committed four.

• The Bears started a pitcher who had never made a start before in Kate Juskiewic. She kept the Lions off the board for the first two innings as the teams traded zeroes.
• That all changed in the third inning.
Jadalynn Rodriguez and
Taylor Lipkins each got on via infield singles and
Adriana Mungo drove in the Lions first run with a sacrifice fly as Rodriguez trotted home.
•
Kaitlyn Stufft added to her RBI total for the day with a run-scoring single. That started a string of four straight GCU hits.
Alyssa Herrera and
Taylor Barraza followed with RBI doubles then
Jayda Jones made it a 7-0 game with a two-run homer to left.
• The focus then shifted to Blaszka, who like Rabe was working on a no-hitter through three innings. She set Bloomfield down in order in the fourth.
• One more run would allow Blaszka a shot at a five-inning no-hitter. Georgian Court did one better getting two more. With two outs,
Taylor Barraza and
Jayda Jones went back-to-back with RBI singles putting the Lions up 9-0 through four.
• Blaszka started the fifth inning off with a walk then got a strikeout on three pitches. The only ball hit in play was handled by
Kaitlyn Stufft at first who threw to second to get the lead runner.
• One out away, Hailey Connor made Blaszka work, but on a 2-2 pitch, Blaszka struck her out to end the game and her teammates met her on the infield to celebrate the no-hitter.
