Lions Bounce Back With Win Over Jefferson

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 5, 2023) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse used a six-goal third quarter to pull ahead of Jefferson and get right back in the win column with a 15-11 victory over the Rams. The Lions trailed until late in the first period but overcame the deficit for a 15-11 win. They even their record at 6-6 and move to 5-1 in the CACC. 

How it Happened
• Jefferson was by the better team on the draw winning 22-of-30, but the Georgian Court defense did their part in keeping them off the scoreboard.
• With the extra offensive time off the draw, Jefferson took 30 total shots to GCU's 25. They put 23 on goal to the Lions 21.
• Georgian Court came up with 12 saves in net. They also caused seven turnovers and Jefferson gave the ball away 19 times.
• The Rams could have kept things closer but were 0-4 on free position shots while the Lions deposited 2-of-3.

First Half
• Jefferson scored the first two goals in the game to take an early lead. They held the Lions scoreless for nearly the first 10 minutes.
• Goalkeeper Melanie Goldstein made five saves in the first 9:40 to keep Georgian Court without a goal.
Isabel Raimondi finally broke through with 5:19 left in the first. She grabbed a ground ball rebound and finally beat Goldstein to make it a 2-1 game. 
• Jefferson regained a two-goal lead in the period, but the Lions scored twice in the final 90 seconds, once from Alyssa Wahl and another from Remi Reinhardt to tie the game after 15 minutes.
• The Lions took their first lead, 4-3, thanks to Wahl who scored with the player-advantage.
• Jefferson scored back-to-back and regained the lead and were looking for more as GCU was issued a yellow card. Instead, it was Riley O'Connor who scored shorthanded to tie the game.
• The Lions killed off the power play and went on to score twice more to finish the half leading by two, 7-5.

Second Half
Remi Reinhardt gave the Lions their largest lead to that point, 8-5, and made it four straight GCU goals putting one in four minutes into the second half.
• The Lions scored six goals in the third quarter and extended their lead to a high of six, 13-7. Caitlin Petrellese and Kasha Elzinga each scored their first of the game.
• Raimondi added another at the start of the fourth and things seemed to be in hand for the Lions up 14-7
• Jefferson though scored four straight and made it a three-goal game with 1:20 to play.
• Georgian Court finally grabbed an important draw and Elzinga finished off the Rams with her second goal of the half.

Lion Stat Leaders
Alyssa Wahl scored a game-high seven points with four goals and three assists.
Isabel Raimondi netted a hat trick as well with three goals and three assists.
Remi Reinhardt scored three times with four ground balls and four draw controls.
Riley O'Connor and Kasha Elzinga each scored twice. 
Jade Rivera caused three turnovers and scooped a grounder.
Alexis Hahn made 12 saves and also came away with three ground balls. 

For the Rams
• Ellie Lefton scored a goal and dished out six assists.
• Madison Caffrey and Audrey Strock each scored four times.
• Carina Raymond added two goals.
• Erin Avanzato won 17 draw controls.
• Lilly Kull grabbed a team-best four ground balls. 
• Julia McLaughlin caused four turnovers.
• Melanie Goldstein made six saves, five coming in the first 10 minutes. 

News and Notes
• All-time Georgian Court is now 22-4 against the Rams. It's their most wins against a single opponent. 
• The Lions have had a shot-on-goal percentage greater than 70% in five straight games. 
Alexis Hahn played her 50th career game.
Jade Rivera picked up her 40th ground ball.
Isabel Raimondi scored her 50th career goal. 
Kasha Elzinga scored her 25th goal and 30th point.
Remi Reinhardt netted career point number 50.
• Jefferson had scored at least 20 goals in three of their last five games. The 11 goals scored is their fewest in a conference game this season.

• Georgian Court is home once again next Tuesday, April 11th when they welcome in Post. It's also the Women's Lacrosse Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
