LAKEWOOD, NJ (Aug. 31, 2023) – Georgian Court University President Joseph R. Marbach has approved the addition of the sport of baseball as an intercollegiate sport. The announcement came from University Director of Athletics Dan Sempkowski with Georgian Court looking to compete in the spring of 2025.
Baseball will be the 16
th sport offered at Georgian Court University and the sixth men's program. With baseball set to begin in 2025, Georgian Court will have added two sports in two years under Sempkowski with the addition of Acrobatics and Tumbling competing for the first time in February of 2024.
"We are all very excited to be adding the sport of Baseball to Georgian Court University," said Sempkowski. He continued, "This is a sport with an excellent tradition in the state of New Jersey and even more locally in Monmouth and Ocean County."
Speaking of the local talent and tradition, Georgian Court now becomes the only NCAA Division II program to sponsor baseball in Central and South New Jersey.
Along with the announcement of the addition of the sport of Baseball, that means the Lions are now searching for the first head coach in program history. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply using the link above.
