LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 13, 2023) - Georgian Court started CACC action with a bang Wednesday evening. Playing in front of their home crowd, the Lions swept Goldey-Beacom 3-0 winning in dominating fashion 25-12, 25-17, 25-10. The Lions are back over .500 with a 4-3 overall record and are 1-0 in conference play.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court was on fire for the entirety of the match. They never trailed in any of the three sets.
• The Lions hit .272 while holding the Lightning to a -.134. Goldey-Beacom landed 14 kills and hit 25 attack errors.
• None of those attack errors came by way of blocks as the Lions didn't hit any in three sets. The Lightning put back three blocks.
• GCU did have a big advantage on the serve where they scored nine aces and allowed just two.
• Defensively, GCU picked up 37 digs to Goldey-Beacom's 31.
Set 1
• Georgian Court stormed out of the gates scoring the first six points in the match and causing GBC to burn a timeout.
• The Lightning were able to play even with the Lions following the timeout for a bit. They got to within three, 8-5.
• After a GCU service error made it 15-10 Lions and sided out to the Lightning, the Lions closed the set on a 10-2 run. They scored another six straight points with five of the six coming from GBC attack errors.

Giorgia Cappelletti ended the set with an ace at 25-12. Goldey-Beacom hit .-194 with four kills and 10 attack errors.
Set 2
• The second set was the closest of the three. Although the Lions never trailed, the Lightning did tie the set five times.
• The scored was knotted at 10-10 when the Lions took over. They scored six-of-seven for a 16-11 lead, their largest to that point.Â
• GCU was in control the rest of the way. Cappelletti with a pir of kills and a
Nylene Mateo service ace ended the set at 25-17.
• Mateo landed six kills in the frame.
Set 3
• After the two teams traded points to start, Georgian Court ripped off 12 straight for a commanding 13-1 lead. Mateo had three kills during the run and GBC hit seven attack errors.
• The set was never in doubt from there.
Amiyah Woods ended the match with a kill and a 25-10 set three win.
• GCU hit 12 kills while GBC hit 12 attack errors and hit -.375.

Nylene Mateo led all scorers with 12 kills and 13 points. She also added six digs and a service ace.

Martina Croce each landed six kills. Cappelletti added five service aces.

Iciar Zayas passed out 25 assists to go along with a game-high nine digs.

Jessica Sprankle added eight digs with five assists and two aces.

• Piper Nanouski had five kills and two digs.
• Eva Eanes led the Lightning with seven assists. Juliana Malena added five.
• Megan Chesser picked up three blocks.
