Last Second Goal Pulls Dominican Even With Lions in CACC Opener

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 16, 2023) - Georgian Court was less than 20 seconds away from their first win of the season and starting out CACC play 1-0, but a last second goal from Dominican pulled the Chargers even in the 1-1 draw. The Lions start out CACC play at 0-0-1 and are 0-3-2 overall.

How it Happened
• It was an evenly matched game with both teams getting off 13 total shots.
• The Lions put more on target, 5-2.
• GCU had the edge in corner kicks, 5-3.
• Neither team was issued a card. Dominican was called for 10 fouls and Lions six.
• The first half had a very slow pace to it. Georgian Court was in possession more during the half and took nine of their 13 shots.
• Abby Kennelly took the first official shot of the game just past the 10 minute mark.
• Georgian Court upped the pressure in the middle of the half. Kennelly and Juliana Rettino each got shots off that were saved.
• Dominican goalkeeper had to make one more save in the half, this time on Bridgette King and the first 45 minutes came to an end without a goal being scored.
• The Chargers were the ones who started the second half with some pressure. They took 10 shots to Georgian Courts three in the entire half.
• However it was the Lions who were able to get on the board first. Emily Clayton chipped a pass into the box and found Kennelly. Kennelly's turnaround shot got passed the Charger goalkeeper but was trickling wide. Ava Reardon though was unmarked and tapped the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute.
• After the goal, Georgian Court had opportunities to add to their lead. King and Rettino each had shots.
• Carley Polchak made a save in the 86th minute to keep it a 1-0 game.
• In the closing seconds, Dominican had one more opportunity and capitalized. After getting a free kick and an erroneous clock stoppage, the Chargers played the ball into the box where it pinballed around the goal mouth to Isabella Wysocki who was able to chip it past Polchak to tie the game with less than 20 seconds left to play.
• Neither team was able to get another shot off and the Lions were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie.
