Georgian Court Blanked by Frostburg State

BOYDS, Md. (Sept. 3, 2023) - Georgian Court was on the road for the first time in 2023 taking on Frostburg State who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. For the second straight game, the Lions were held off the scoreboard and fell 2-0 as they start the season 0-2. 

How it Happened
• Frostburg State really controlled play for much of the afternoon. 
• In terms of shots, Frostburg State had 10 times as many as the Lions, 30-3 and were up 13-1 in shots on goal.
• The match featured nine fouls called and one yellow card issued. 
• The Bobcats got on the board in the sixth minute. A foul inside the box led to a penalty kick. Lela Clark took the kick and scored for an early 1-0 lead.
• Frostburg State held GCU without a shot until the 21:56 mark of the half. 
• Late in the half, Frostburg State made it a 2-0 lead as Madison Allen took a feed from Morgan Mrizek and went low past the Lions keeper.
• Much of the half was spent in the GCU defensive zone as the Bobcats totaled 18 shots to the Lions one including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal and 5-1 on corner kicks.
• Frostburg State kept up possession in the second half. Though they didn't match the 18 shots from the first half, they added another 12 to get to 30.
• The Lions defense did all they could and held the Bobcats scoreless over the second half, but couldn't get a goal themselves in the 2-0 loss. 

Lion Stat Leaders
• Two of the Lions three shots came from Ava Reardon.
Abby Kennelly had the Lions third third shot and only one on net.
Carley Polchak allowed two goals in the first half and made five saves.
Emma Bennett made six saves in 37 minutes and Delanie Wilkinson was untested in eight minutes between the pipes.

For Frostburg State
• Lela Clark scored on a penalty kick goal.
• Madison Allen scored a goal on two shots.
• Toni Fiocco-Mizer ripped a game-high eight shots, three on target.
• Ashley Bilger made a save in net and got the win playing 74 minutes in goal.

News and Notes
• Georgian Court saw 30 players take the field in the game. 
• Goalkeepers Emma Bennett and Delanie Wilkinson each made their GCU debuts.
• The 30 shots GCU allowed are the most in at least the last five seasons.
• This is just the fourth time since 2012 the Lions have started a season 0-2.
