LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 2, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball continued their homestand Tuesday afternoon with a nonconference matchup against the University of Charleston. The Lions did a good job slowing down the Golden Eagle offense, but still came up a bit short, 70-60.
How it Happened
• Both teams shot 42% from the floor and hit four three-pointers. Each also hit 14-of-19 at the foul line.
• The Golden Eagles entered as one of the better three-point teams in the nation, but the Lions held them to just 15%, 4-27. Georgian Court meanwhile was 4-15 behind the arc.
• Charleston had the advantage on the glass grabbing 40 rebounds, 17 offensive. GCU pulled down 32 total. Charleston turned those 17 offensive rebounds into 11 second-chance points.
• GCU turned the ball over 17 times, while forcing just 10. The Golden Eagles scored 24 from Lion turnovers including 23 on the fast break.
First Half
• With neither team shooting well, it was a low scoring affair at the outset.
Clint Wright, Jr. hit a pair of three's and the Lions led 6-4 until the 15 minute mark.
• Georgian Court reclaimed the lead, 10-9, on an
Anthony Rivera offensive rebound and put back at the 13:46 mark.Â
• That was the last time the Lions led as Charlestons answered with a layup of their own.
• The defenses were at their best in the middle of the first half.
Amari Jones hit a three with 6:41 left in the half bringing the Golden Eagle lead to one possession, 20-17.
• UC though scored six straight and got the lead into double-digits. Rivera made a layup in the closing seconds and at the break Charleston led by eight, 33-25.
Second Half
• The lead hovered around 10 for the beginning of the half.
Justin Harper drove in strong for a layup and a foul and the three-point game made it 49-39 Golden Eagles.
• Charleston took over after that scoring 11 straight points with Eddie Colbert III scoring nine of them.
• Georgian Court scored eight of the final 10 in the last two minutes of play, but it wasn't enough in the 76-60 loss.
Lion Stat Leaders

Anthony Rivera was 5-8 from the field for a team-high 14 points with six rebound, three assists and two steals.

Clint Wright, Jr. added 11 with six boards.

Kamaal Cox was 4-5 of the bench for eight points.
•
Charles Anyichie blocked four shots.
For the Golden Eagles
• Eddie Colbert III scored a game-high 17 with eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
• Obinna Ugwuakazi matched Colbert III with 17 on 7-10 shooting and seven rebounds.
• DeAirius Barker and Dwaine Jones each scored 10. Jones also dished out eight assists.

• This was the Lions first ever game against the University of Charleston.
• The 76 points Charleston scored are a season-low as are their four three-pointers and .148 three-point percentage.Â
