RUTHERFORD, NJ (Oct. 12, 2024) - The week didn't start off as planned for Georgian Court who dropped a pair of midweek matches. They righted the ship though Saturday afternoon getting back into conference play with a sweep of Felician (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). The win improves GCU to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• The Lions offense was clicking hitting .287 for the match. Felician managed to hit just .108.
• Most of the numbers were fairly even as GCU won all three sets by six or fewer points and 14 total.
• They hit seven more kills, three more aces and one more block than the Golden Falcons. Felician also hit seven more attack errors.
Set 1
• The beginning of the match was a true back-and-forth affair.
• Georgian Court was down one, 16-15, when Felician went on a 3-0 run to go up four, 19-15.
• The Lions chipped away though and after tying things at 20 and 21, a Felician attack error gave the Lions the lead.
• The Golden Falcons were able to retie at 24, but kills from
Nylene Mateo and
Martina Croce ended the set, 25-23.
Set 2
• Georgian Court scored the first five points in set two and never trailed.
• Felician attempted to make a number of comebacks, even tying the set at 12, but the Lions held off each Golden Falcon run.
• Clinging to a two-point lead, GCU scored the final four points, getting to Mateo service aces to end it, 25-19.
Set 3
• Much like set two, GCU took an early lead and never looked back.
• The Lions scored eight of the first nine points.Â
• They were on cruise control the rest of the way, trading points before a
Giorgia Cappelletti service ace ended the match.
