WILMINGTON, Del. (Oct. 2, 2024) - Georgian Court Volleyball won three straight sets Wednesday night, just like Monday. However they were the first three this time rather than the last three. The Lions swept the easy way, winning 3-0 at Goldey-Beacom.
How it Happened
• The Lions hit just a bit under .200 at .194 while holding the Lightning to just .101.
• Teams were nearly even in kills, GCU 37 and GBC 36, but Goldey-Beacom hit nine more attack errors.
• Georgian Court totaled six aces and six service errors. The Lightning landed just three aces while hitting seven errors on the serve.
• The Lions got plenty of points off the block, 10 in total while the Lightning scored just two blocks.
Set 1
• Georgian Court started the match with three straight kills and nine of the first 12 points.Â
• The Lightning chipped away and a GCU service error brought the lead down to two, 20-18.
• Still up just two, 21-19, the Lions scored four straight to end the set with an
Amiyah Woods and
Martina Croce block scoring the final point.
Set 2
• Georgian Court again started the set by getting out in front. They led by four early, 8-4.
• Goldey-Beacom responded by scoring five straight for a 9-8 lead of their own.
• Things remained tight and back-to-back Lightning errors put GCU up two, 14-12.
• GBC again came back and used a 7-1 run to take their largest lead, 19-15.
• The Lions fought back and got to within two, 24-22, but were facing set-point.
• GCU scored four straight to survive set point and a kill from
Nylene Mateo gave the Lions a 2-0 lead with a 26-24 set win.Â
Set 3
• Georgian Court took an early 3-2 lead and never looked back on their way to a three-set sweep.
• Still ahead just one, 6-5, the Lions went on a 14-7 run in the middle of the set to comfortably lead 20-12.
• GCU put back their 10th block of the game, this from
Martina Croce and
Chelsea Ross to complete the sweep, 25-18.

Nylene Mateo scored a match-high 13 kills and hit .333 with six digs.

Giorgia Cappelletti had a productive day with nine kills and seven digs.
