Volleyball Homestand Continues This Weekend

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 25, 2024) - Georgian Court Volleyball marches on with two more home games Saturday and Monday.

West Chester Golden Rams (9-11, 2-6 PSAC)

• Both matches are available via a free-to-view broadcast on the Georgian Court portal of CACC Digital Network, powered by HUDL. Live stats for both games are available on the Lions Volleyball schedule page.

Previously vs. Bloomfield
• Georgian Court has mostly gotten the better of this match up with 21 wins against 12 losses.
• The Lions did snap a two-game losing streak with a sweep last year in Bloomfield and are 6-2 in the last eight meetings.
• Each of the Lions last five wins over the Bears have been via a 3-0 sweep.
• Playing at home, GCU is 13-4 all-time against the Bears.
• Last year, Bloomfield's attack percentage was in the negatives while the Lions hit .245.
Nylene Mateo and Giorgia Cappelletti were in double-figure kills and Icar Zayas passed out 34 assists. 

Previously vs. West Chester
• Georgian Court and West Chester met back in 2021 and 2022 and split with the home team winning each.
• All-time the Lions are just 3-10 against the Golden Rams.
Nylene Mateo led GCU in their last meeting back in 2022 with 15 kills. 
• Then-freshman Iciar Zayas passed out 26 assists. 

Last Time Out
• After getting behind early so often, Georgian Court was able to put away Wilmington in three sets.
• It was a tight first set win, 26-24, but the Lions cruised from there to 25-15 and 25-8 wins in the final two.
• GCU dominated the service line with 10 aces, five from Giorgia Cappelletti.
Nylene Mateo and Chelsea Ross each landed 11 kills. Ross hit .600 for the match.
Dayna Diaz passed out 29 assists. 

Individual Milestones
• Giorgia Cappelletti needs five more service aces for 100.
• Dayna Diaz is three digs away from reaching 300 and 31 assists away from 800. 
• Amiyah Woods is three points away from 600.
• Five more digs will get Ava Venneri to 200.
Chelsea Ross is five blocks away from moving to fourth in Lions history. 
• Nylene Mateo is two sets away from 400 played and 15 digs short of 800.
• Iciar Zayas is three aces away from 50 and 13 assists away from 1700 while 14 assists will see her enter the top-five all-time at GCU. 

CACC Leaders (Based on NCAA Stats)
• Giorgia Cappelletti is third in the country and leads the CACC with 0.67 service aces per set. 
• Chelsea Ross is now leading the league with 1.13 blocks per set. 
• Carmen Rivera is in the CACC top-10 at No. 7 for digs per set with 3.48.
• Iciar Zayas with 5.28 assists per set ranks eighth. 
• Nylene Mateo's 3.41 points per set is ninth in the conference.
• Georgian Court is second in the CACC with 1.72 blocks per set.
• The Lions 2.24 aces per set is third in the league and 19th in Division II.
• GCU has the fourth-best hitting percentage at .177. 

Who's Hot?
• Chelsea Ross has hit .350 or better in eight of her last 10 matches. She also has 49 blocks during that span. 
• Giorgia Cappelletti has double-figure kills in three of her last four matches. She's also hit better than .200 in four straight and was last week's CACC Player of the Week. 
• Nylene Mateo is averaging 3.16 kills per set in her last two matches.
Carmen Rivera is averaging 4.14 digs per set in her last four matches.

Comeback Kids
• The Lions have had a never-say-die attitude all season long.
• This season when GCU loses the first set, they're still 5-7.
• That was on display last week after dropping the opening set to Jefferson and Bridgeport before winning the next three.
• Georgian Court is very comfortable late in matches. In all matches that extend beyond three sets, GCU is 8-1. 

Home Cookin'
• Georgian Court has eight games remaining in the regular season. Of those eight, six will be played at home.
• This season, GCU is 5-2 at home and just 6-6 everywhere else.
• The Lions are also currently in a position to host the first round of the CACC Tournament as they sit first in the league standings.
• If they Lions advance, GCU is the designated host for the conference semifinals and final round. 

About Bloomfield
• Bloomfield is still in search of their first win this season. They are 0-14 overall and 0-9 in the CACC.
• Just twice this season has Bloomfield avoided being swept.
• The Bears have more errors than kills this year and are hitting -.028.
• Kyomaris Morales leads the squad with 88 kills.
• On the service line, teams have hit 100 more aces than the Bears and average more than 3.5 aces per set. 
• Bloomfield is also surrendering more than 1.4 blocks per set. 

About West Chester
• West Chester is in a funk winning just one of their last six games.
• The Golden Rams stand at 9-11 overall and 2-6 against PSAC competition.
• West Chester made their rounds against CACC competition this season. They're 6-3 against CACC opponents.
• Despite the losing record, West Chester has a higher hitting percentage than their opponents. They're hitting .187 while opponents are at .181.
• The offense has run through Anna Richardson and Zoe Haines who each have more than 180 kills.
• The Golden Rams have also done a nice job getting points from service. They have 141 aces and surrendered just 114.
• Nicole Dimiris leads West Chester with 42 blocks. Lacie Brown is the primary setter averaging 8.71 assists per set.
