LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 26, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer surrendered three second-half goals which was the difference in a 4-1 loss Saturday afternoon against Post. The loss is the Lions second in a row and drops them to 8-6-1 this season, 6-3 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Possession heavily favored Post, who controlled the ball for nearly 60% of the match.
• With that, they also led in shots, 17-11 and shots on a goal 8-3.
• After corner kicks were even 1-1 in the first half, Post drew six in the second while GCU didn't get take another.
• Fouls called also heavily favored Post as they were whistled just five times to the Lions 12. Post was booked once more though, 3-2.
• The early portion of the match saw a lot of action in the middle of the field, with not much happening towards the goal lines.
• Post got an early shot off that sailed wide and neither goalkeeper was tested for more than 20 minutes.
• While it was the Eagles who played the ball more in their offensive zone, it was the Lions who struck first.
•
Vitor Antelo intercepted a pass near midfield and carried it into the Eagles zone. He dished left to Gijs van Eif in the box who beat the keeper for a 1-0 Georgian Court lead in the 25th minute.
• The score stayed that way for a while and looked like it might hold up through the half.
• With less than three minutes before the break though, Post got even.
• The Eagles quickly turned defense into offense as Luis Rodrigues' through pass connected with Marc Ballart who took a couple touches and was able to beat
Ayendi Batista to even things at one.
• Early in the second half, Georgian Court was generating some opportunities, but could not connect. Four shots in four minutes were either turned away by the goalkeeper or blocked by the defense.
• That included a golden opportunity where the referee called an indirect free kick for GCU after the Post goaltender took to long to punt the ball out. That too was blocked up front and pushed harmlessly aside by the Eagles.
• Shortly after, Post struck for the go-ahead goal. This time it was Rodrigues from Ballart. Rodrigues took a step to his left then fired back to his right into the upper right corner of the net to put the Eagles up.
• They weren't done though, making it a two-goal lead five minutes later. The Lions were able to make two point-blank stops, but the rebound found orange uniforms each time, and eventually, Ballart was there to hammer it home for a 3-1 lead with 15 minutes to play.
• With less than two to play, Post put the game away as Markus Bo Tunge dribbled laterally through the box and added the fourth and final Eagles goal.
