Lavezzo's Two Second-Half Goals Lift Lions to Homecoming Win

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 5, 2024) - Homecoming is typically a day for alumni, but in the case of Georgian Court Women's Soccer, it was a day for freshman. Chelsea Lavezzo in particular who scored two second-half goals to give Georgian Court a 2-1 victory over Bridgeport. The win moves GCU to 7-3-0 on the season and 4-1-0 in league play.

How it Happened
• It was another game where GCU was out shot. This time 22-10, but just 7-6 in shots on goal.
• Bridgeport also controlled possession in the offensive zone and earned five corner kicks to the Lions two.
• UB was called for six fouls and issued one card. The Lions whistled for five common fouls.
• If you were tailgating a bit too long in the parking lot, you might have missed the first goal of the game. Angelina LoFranco found Brooke Boucher and the Purple Knights have a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
• Neither offense did much in the first half aside from chewing up the middle of the field.
• Emma Bennett made a late save and the Lions only put two on net and the first 45 was over quickly with UB up 1-0.
• The second half also saw a quick goal. Abby Kennelly nearly scored less than 90 seconds in, but her shot hit the cross bar and stayed out.
• Not long after, Kennelly carried into the box, centered to a wide open Chelsea Lavezzo who did not miss, scoring in the 49th minute to even things at one.
• Bridgeport started applying pressure to the Lions, getting off a number of shots with Bennett coming up big.
• With less than 15 minutes to play and the game still tied at one, Paige Coulahan directed a pass towards the Lions offensive zone. Lavezzo ran it down and carried it across midfield. With some nifty footwork she cut across the field and from the top of the box ripped a shot perfectly into the upper right corner for the game-winner.
• Bennett made one more save the rest of the way and the Lions earned another win, 2-1, over Bridgeport.
