Volleyball Hits the Road for the Start of Five Straight

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 7, 2024) - Georgian Court Volleyball, after an exciting week that included three victories, gets set for their longest road trip of the season.

• Tuesday's match at Holy Family is available via a free-to-view broadcast on the CACC Digital Network, powered by HUDL. Previously vs. Holy Family
• Georgian Court snapped a six-match losing streak to Holy Family last season with their 3-0 win on the road.
• All-time the Tigers lead the series 24-22.
• Things have been just as evenly matched at home and on the road with the Lions 10-11 at home and 11-12 in Philadelphia.
• Last year's sweep saw GCU dominate, which includes a 25-8 set three win.
Giorgia Cappelletti led the offense with 12 kills and hit .480 without an attack error.

Previously vs. Adelphi
• The Lions are just 3-9 against their Northeast-10 foe, Adelphi, but did get a win in their last match in 2021.
• That five-set match saw the Lions get the win, 16-14 in the fifth set.
• The Lions were down at match-point, 14-13, but scored three straight with Grace Fenn getting the game-winning kill.
• Playing in Garden City, the Lions are just 1-3.

Last Time Out
• Well, the Lions did it again. For the third time this season, second in a week, they fell behind 2-0 only to come roaring back and win the final three sets.
• This time the feat came against Dominican Saturday morning. 
• It's the first time in the NCAA era the Lions have had three reverse sweeps in a season.
Nylene Mateo landed 19 kills and hit .240 for the match.
Iciar Zayas passed out 37 assists with 14 digs. 

Individual Milestones
• Dayna Diaz is 13 assists away from reaching 10th place all-time at GCU.
• Amiyah Woods is three blocks away from 200.
Giorgia Cappelletti needs 13 kills to reach 400 and 17.5 points for 500.
Nylene Mateo is 13.5 points away from 1400.
Martina Croce is 17 digs away from 200.
Chelsea Ross needs 18 kills for 500 and four more blocks will tie her with her coach, Shana Rayside, for fifth all-time at GCU.
Iciar Zayas needs 29 assists to get to 1600.

CACC Leaders (Based on NCAA Stats)
• Giorgia Cappelletti is second in the CACC and 15th nationally wih 0.63 service aces per set.
Chelsea Ross with 1.02 blocks per set is second in the league.
Carmen Rivera is in the CACC top-10 for digs per set with 3.59.
Nylene Mateo's 3.60 points per set is seventh in the conference.
• Georgian Court is third in the CACC with 1.77 blocks per set.
• The Lions 2.04 aces per set is fourth in the league. 

Who's Hot?
• Nylene Mateo averaged 4.08 kills per set in three matches last week and was the CACC Player of the Week. 
• Carmen Rivera has 10+ digs in three straight matches. 
• Chelsea Ross has at least four blocks in seven straight games and has hit better than .350 in three straight. 
• Giorgia Cappelletti has 10 service aces in the last four matches and double-figure kills in two of the last three. 
• Iciar Zayas had two matches last week with 30+ assists.
Martina Croce hit 12 kills against Dominican. 
Amiyah Woods hit a season-high .389 vs. the Chargers. 

About Holy Family
• It's been an up and down season thus far for the Tigers who at one point had lost 11 in a row.
• They're on the upswing now though with back-to-back wins against St. Thomas Aquinas and Post, who had been unbeaten in the CACC.
• That win over Post ups their record to 4-11 and 2-2 in the CACC.
• The Tiger offense is led by Ava Kidd who has 144 points, 119 kills, and 27 blocks. 
• Kidd is one of just three Tigers who have played in all 51 sets this season.
• Morgan Steck does most of the setting with 7.51 assists per set.
• Holy Family has given up a lot of points at the service line. Opponents have hit 184 aces, 3.60 per set.
• Cadence Palmer is picking up 3.27 digs per set. 

About Adelphi
• Adelphi lost a four-game winning streak dropping a three-set match at American International last Saturday.
• That set them back to 9-7 on the year and 0-1 in the Northeast-10.
• The Panthers have 114 service aces on the season, led by Jamaya Harris's 26.
• They also are successful on 92% of service reception. 
• As a team, Adelphi is hitting .212 with opponents at just .170.
• Macarty McQueen has as team-best 157 kills and 3.02 kills per set.
• Blocking is an area of concern for the Panthers who have just 90.5 and given up 108. Kalena Ricketts leads the team with 38. 
• Jaydin Nowak has 274 total digs which is just outside the top-30 in the nation.
