Men's Soccer Tournament Run Ends in Semifinals

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 13, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer saw their season come to an end Wednesday afternoon. The No. 2 seeded Lions fought hard against No. 3 seed Felician, but a couple of near misses didn't go the Lions way in the 2-0 loss. The loss puts Georgian Court's 2024 record at 11-8-1 overall and 8-3 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• It was an evenly matched game as indicated by the final stats. Felician led in total shots 13-12 and shots on goal 5-3.
• The Lions garnered one more corner kick, 6-5.
• There were plenty of whistled for fouls, cards, and official's stoppages. In total there were 36 fouls, 22 on Felician. The match also saw 14 yellow cards.
• Georgian Court got the first chance a little more than five minutes in. Maurice Engl settled a ball near the top of the box and ripped a shot that Emanuele Moretti made a diving save on.
• Just a minute later going the other way, Felician was able to capitalize on their first scoring chance. Hugo Rodriguez centered a pass to Nicholas Robinson who went high and tucked it just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead.
• The yellow cards were coming out fast and furious and the tempo of the game continually got disrupted.
• Georgian Court had another great opportunity again from Engl in the 36th minute. His touch was again knocked down by a diving Moretti to keep it a 1-0 game.
• The Lions were working hard for the rest of the half to keep the ball in the offensive zone, but Felician did a good job of blocking shots and passes and eventually the half ran out.
• Just like the first half, Felician got another early goal in the second. Manuel Otero sprung Massimo Girardi who had a opening and beat Ayendi Batista from about 20 yards out.
• Not long after the goal Svante Haakansson looked like he was about to cut the lead in the half in the 61st minute, but his ball hit off the crossbar and stayed out of the net.
• All the breaks were going to Felician and they got another one in the 76th minute when Oscar Jannesson got his second yellow card which meant GCU had to play a man-down for the final 14 minutes.
• Georgian Court still had some chances despite the disadvantage, getting corner kicks and maintaining possession, but couldn't get anything past Moretti and the Golden Falcons hung on for the 2-0 win and the trip to the finals.
