Lions Drop Season Opener on the Road at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. (Nov. 9, 2024) - Georgian Court started the Dave Fedor era Saturday afternoon playing against perennial Northeast-10 Conference power Bentley. Georgian Court hung tough over the first half, but the Falcons pulled away in the second for an 85-56 win.

How it Happened
• Bentley shot better than 40% from the floor while the Lions failed to reach 30% for the game.
• Georgian Court did have a better shooting day from three and at the free throw line. The Lions made 7-26 from downtown while Bentley was just 6-27.
• The Lions also converted 15-20 free throws. Bentley had just one more miss, going 15-21.
• Rebounding was a problem for the Lions who were nearly doubled-up 57-30. Bentley grabbed 20 offensive boards and scored 17 second-chance points.
• The Lions also did a nice job limited turnovers. They lost the ball just 12 times and forced 11.
1st Half
• Bentley started the game on a 9-0 run and did so in quick fashion. That 9-0 run came in the first 97 seconds of the game.
• Georgian Court's first bucket went to Khalil Baker who stopped the Falcon run with a layup.
• The score hovered around 10 for a while, but a 10-2 Lions run capped off with a Justin Harper three-pointer cut the lead down to two, 26-24 with 7:41 to play in the half.
• Still just a two-point game, Bentley went on a 10-0 run highlighted by a Cooper Farrall dunk to get back in front by double-digits.
• Georgian Court scored the final five points in the half and trailed by 11 at the break, 47-36. After getting down 9-0, Bentley only outscored the Lions by two the rest of the half.
2nd Half
• The start to the second half nearly mirrored the first. Bentley scored the first seven points to take their largest lead, 54-36.
• Justin Soranno hit a jumper for the Lions first points of half number two.
• This time though, the Lions were unable to get back to single digits like they had in the first half.
• Georgian Court was just 5-28 in the second half and 0-10 from three as the Falcons outscored them 38-20 and went on to an 85-56 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Justin Harper scored 18 points going 5-9 overall and 3-6 from three with six rebounds, two steals and a block.
• Donavin Crawford was 4-8 from downtown and scored 14 points.
• Caleb Mims was 7-8 at the free throw line which is where he collected all of his points. He also passed out a team-best four assists.
• Khalil Baker chipped in seven points and six boards.

For the Falcons
• Cash McClure was money shooting 9-13 for 20 points and was two rebounds away from a double-double.
• Cooper Farrall also just missed out on a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
• Ivan Misic added 15 points on 5-9 shooting.
• Aaron Latham passed out six assists and came up with three steals.

News and Notes
• This was the second straight season the Lions and Falcons have met to start the year. Georgian Court is 0-3 all-time against Bentley.
• Donavin Crawford scored his 250th career point.
• Georgian Court is still in search of their first season-opening win. They're 0-12 all-time in game 1 of the season.
