MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 15, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball took the floor for the first time in more than a week Sunday afternoon. The Lions went on the road for a nonconference tilt against PSAC foe Millersville. Taking on one of the best defenses in the country, GCU got down early and couldn't get back into the game in an 87-44 loss to the Marauders.
How it Happened
• The Lions finished the game shooting 35% overall. They made 3-10 from three and were 5-8 at the foul line.
• Millersville was hot from behind the arc hitting 54%. They were near 50% overall for the game and 14-19 from the free throw line.
• The Marauders had a big advantage on the glass, collecting 45 rebounds to GCU's 27. That included 25 second-chance points on 17 offensive boards.
• Georgian Court turned the ball over 18 times while forcing just eight.
1st Quarter
• The game started with Millersville collecting an offensive rebound and turning that into a three-pointer.
• The Marauders grabbed the lead first and led end-to-end.
• Millersville scored the first six points in the game. Late in the frame, they pushed the lead out to 10, 14-4.

Maria Stanescu hit a three and a
Niyell McCargo jumper cut the lead in half, 14-9, with 1:32 left in the quarter and Millersville was up five, 16-11, after 10 minutes.
2nd Quarter
•
Destiny Wallace started the second with a layup to cut the Millersville lead down to three.
• Following that though, the Marauders used a 12-0 run to get control of the game.
• Georgian Court fought to cut into the Millersville lead. Stanescu with a layup got it down to 12, but a pair of Millersville free throws and a layup in the final minute gave the Marauders a 40-24 lead at the break.
3rd Quarter
• Millersville kept the scoring going getting the first six points in the second half.
• They extended the lead over 20 and led by 27, 60-33 after the third quarter.
4th Quarter
• Millersville was in cruise control the rest of the game.
• They didn't slow down though and shot 58% in the fourth adding 27 points as they went on to win 87-44.
Lion Stat Leaders
• Niyell McCarco scored a team-best 15 with six rebounds.

Maria Stanescu was 3-5 from three and scored 11 with two steals.

Onnieya Martin came off the bench to add seven points.
For the Marauders
• Makiah Shaw led the team with 16 points.
• Kali March added 14 with six assists.
• Jillian Crawford finished 5-6 for 13 points.

• This was the first ever meeting between the Lions and Millersville.

Niyell McCargo scored her 250th career point.
