About the Opponents
Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks
• For the third straight game, Georgian Court will be an opponents first game of the season. So far they've been successful in those two games at 2-0.
• A year ago, IUP went 12-6 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC. It took two overtimes, but they fell in the first round of the PSAC Tournament, 11-10 against the Lions opponent Thursday, Mercyhurst.
• The Crimson Hawks last year led the PSAC winning 59% of draw controls which was seventh in Division II. They were also eighth nationally with a defense that allowed just 8.33 goals per game.
• IUP had four make the IWLCA All-Region squad in 2023 and all four return. Two of those were on the defensive side, Maggie Marsteller and Sami Shutt. Kathryn Burke led the team scoring 56 points and Sarah Reustle scored 29 goals with 30 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and 43 draw controls.
• Another returner is sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Schramm. She started 16 games and made 104 saves with an 8.65 GAA and 44.3 save percentage.
• IUP was picked to finish second in the PSAC West and picked up three first-place votes.
Mercyhurst Lakers
• Mercyhurst got their season underway over the weekend in an 17-8 loss against No. 5 ranked Grand Valley State.
• Last season the Lakers went 9-9 and 6-6 in the PSAC, advancing to the PSAC Tournament semifinals.
• Mercyhurst has been picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West.Â
• The Lakers are under new leadership this season. Lindsay Weaver takes over head coaching duties with Sarah Farley as the new assistant coach.
• Mercyhurst lost their top-two point scorers from 2023. Whitley Easton returns after a 2023 season that saw her score 23 goals and 36 points.
• Paige Maneri returns as the starting goaltender. She made 113 saves last year with an 11.04 GAA and 43.8% save percentage.Â
