Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lions Erupt in Fourth Quarter For Third Straight Win

INDIANA, Penn. (Feb. 27, 2024) - Through three quarters, Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse and Indiana University of Pennsylvania were tied at 10. In a game that could have gone either way, GCU put their foot on the gas and scored eight times in the fourth to pull away for an 18-13 lead. The win gives the Lions a 3-0 start to the season.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court led by just two in shots, 33-31. The Lions needed to make more saves with Natalie Moradian stopping 13 and IUP goaltenders combining for eight saves.
• Indiana of Pennsylvania turned the ball over 18 times and GCU 16.
• The Lions were just 11-17 on clears while IUP got it across the timeline 13-of-16 times.
• The Crimson Hawks had the advantage both on the draw, 19-15, and on the ground, 17-15.
• GCU scored twice on four free-position shots. IUP was 1-5.
• There has been a crackdown on player safety this season from the IWLCA and with that games across the country have seen an uptick in fouls and cards. That hasn't been more evident this season that this afternoon where there were a whopping 16 cards and 23 additional fouls that were enough to call, but not enough to warrant a card.
First Quarter
• Indiana of Pennsylvania took the first lead at the 13:23 mark.
• Georgian Court scored the next three though getting goals from Caitlin Petrellese, Riley O'Connor, and Bryleigh Tejchman.
• In the final 95 seconds each team added one. Tejchman scored her second from the Lions and GCU was up 4-2 after one.
Second Quarter
• After just one goal in the first eight minutes of quarter number two, a woman-down goal from the Crimson Hawks, there were eight more in the final 6:38.
• The Lions opened up a three-goal lead, getting two power play goals from Isabel Raimondi and another goal from Tejchman for a 7-4 lead.
• Still up three, 8-5, following another O'Connor goal, IUP scored two to finish out the half and got to within one, 8-7, at intermission.
Third Quarter
• After scoring the final two goals of the second quarter, IUP continued that run scoring the first three of the third.
• That gave them five straight goals and a 10-8 lead with six minutes to play in the third.
• Georgian Court responded less than a minute later as Gianna Nardini made it a one-goal game again with O'Connor picking up the assist.
• And like she did last week against Gannon, Remi Reinhardt tied it, this time with a free-position goal.
• Neither team scored over the final 3:36 of the period and through three, the game was tied at 10.
Fourth Quarter
• IUP broke the 10-all tie just 40 seconds into the fourth, but after that it was all Lions.
Michaela Scirrotto scored on a free-position attempt to tie just 27 seconds later and Reinhardt gave GCU the lead for good with 13 minutes left to play.
• The Crimson Hawks got back to within one, 13-12, but GCU scored five times in 5:02 to put the game away.
• IUP added a late goal but it wasn't enough as GCU started their road trip with a big 18-13 win.
