LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 13, 2024) - Lacrosse is a game of runs and Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse was on the wrong end of a 7-0 run late in the third period. The Assumption Greyhounds scored seven straight to turn a four-goal deficit into a three goal lead and help on to win by one, 12-11. The loss puts GCU at 3-4 heading into conference play.
How it Happened
• Faceoffs were a huge part of the game with Assumption winning 18-26. That also helped them to a 35-25 advantage in ground balls.
• Take away faceoffs and ground ball numbers were even at 17.
• With the extra possessions, Assumption led in shots 43-31 and shots on goal 25-21.
• The Greyhounds were 20-22 on clear attempts with 17 turnovers. The Lions turned the ball over 15 times and were 26-29 on clear attempts.
• GCU committed four penalties for 3:30 of shorthanded time, but the Greyhounds were 0-4 with the extra attacker.
• The Lions converted 1-2 on their extra-man opportunities.
First Quarter
• Assumption got out of the gates strong scoring twice in the first 100 seconds.
• Georgian Court got their first at the 8:53 mark as
Brett Bridges danced around the defense and scored.
• That started a stretch of four straight Lion goals, including three to finish up the first.

Millan Webster tied the game and with just 29 second left in the quarter, Bridges gave GCU a 3-2 lead.
Second Quarter
• The Lions held that lead throughout the first half.
•
Tyler Burns put GCU ahead 4-2 scoring 3:26 into the second.
• After Assumption got back to within on at 4-3 and 5-4, the Lions finished the half with two straight.
• Bridges, who won last year's Georgian Court Play of the Year with a behind the back goal against Assumption, pulled the trick again for the Lions fifth goal.
• Bridges and
Sebastien Castillo scored before the half and the Lions were up 7-4.
Third Quarter
•
Doug Mackenzie gave the Lions their largest lead of the game, 8-4 at the 11:32 mark of the third.
• But things unraveled from there for the Lions.
• Assumption scored seven straight, with the first four coming in a span of just 2:37.
• It took 8:24 for the Greyhounds to score all seven and led 11-8 after three quarters.
• Over the final 12:12 of the third, Assumption won 5-8 faceoffs forced six GCU turnovers and the Lions didn't get a single shot off.
Fourth Quarter
• Now down three, GCU got to within two as
Doug Mackenzie scored 3:26 into the fourth.
• Assumption answered a little over two minutes later to make it a 12-9 game.
• The Lions got one back as Bridges found
James Sanford with 8:18 left to play.
• Assumption's defense held strong, but after a non-releaseable penalty with 1:25 left to play, Mackenzie got the Lions to within one with a power play goal.
• Still with 39 seconds on the penalty, the Lions won the important faceoff as
Kyle Harms scooped up the ground ball and the Lions got a timeout to draw up a play with 54 seconds left.
• Mackenzie ripped another shot on target, but Greyhound goalkeeper Colin Malone was up to the task. Assumption threw the ball down the field and GCU couldn't get another shot off before time expired.

• Andres Rantilla and Matthew Doerfler each had four ground ball pickups.
• Doerfler and Jack Galvin both caused two turnovers.
• Colin Malone made 10 saves.

• This is the first time in the three-game history of these two teams the road team has won. Georgian Court falls to 1-2 against the Greyhounds.
