WATERBURY, Conn. (March 16, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse used a big first half to propel themselves to a 15-7 win in their CACC opener over Post. The Lions scored 11 in the first half and raced out to a big lead and never trailed in the eight-goal win. The Lions move to .500 on the season at 4-4 and start CACC action 1-0.
How it Happened
• One game after getting beat too much for their liking on faceoffs, Georgian Court won 14-26.
• With the extra possessions, GCU outshot the Eagles 41-32.
• GCU was 24-28 on clears and Post 19-23. Post turned the ball over 16 times while the Lions did a good job holding onto the ball, losing it just 11.
• The Lions got to 36 ground balls and the Eagles 29.
• On extra-man opportunities, GCU was 0-1 and Post 1-2 in a low-penalty game.
First Quarter
• Georgian Court scored five times in the first quarter and jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

Brett Bridges got it going with a goal a little more than two minutes in.
•
Joe Zerr and
Tyler Burns traded goals with each scoring two in the first.
• Burns scored with 20 seconds to play to make it a 5-1 game.
Second Quarter
•
Vincent Burns netted the first goal in the second, before Post scored two straight to cut the lead in half, 6-3.
• Less than 20 seconds after the Eagles second goal,
Tallen Smith answered with a goal of his own.

Vincent Burns scored twice more in the second, giving him three for the period.
• The Lions scored three in a 1:46 span and twice just 26 seconds apart.
• Bridges and Zerr each scored to close the half with GCU ahead 11-4.
Third Quarter
• After a 15 goal first half, the teams combined for just seven in the second.
• The third was particularly low-scoring with each getting just one goal.
• Bridges was the goal-scorer for GCU while Post scored on the man-advantage and like the second, the Lions were up seven after the third.
Fourth Quarter
•
James Sanford scored twice in the fourth quarter helping the Lions to ice the game.
•
Harrison Jordan put the finishing touches on the game with GCU's final goal. He also assisted on one of Sanford's.
• Post got a late goal, but it wasn't enough as the Lions picked up a win in their conference opener, 15-7.
Lion Stat Leaders
•
Vincent Burns and
Brett Bridges each scored three goals with an assist and a ground ball. All three of Burns' goals came in the second quarter.

Vincent Burkhart made 14 saves in net.
•
Tyler Burns scored twice with two assists.
•
Joe Zerr took four shots and scored three times
•
Garrett Kenny won 9-17 faceoffs and picked up four ground balls.
•
Justin Iannarone was also back in the faceoff circle, winning 5-7.
•
Kyle Harms grabbed five ground balls.
•
Brendan Barnes caused three turnovers and
Hunter Rindos and
Michael Schone two.
For the Eagles
• Cole George was under duress in net and made 13 saves.
• Tim Keefe and Noah Piette each scored twice. Keefe also picked up four ground balls.
• James Sproul secured a game-high eight grounders.
• Jaxon Holden was 12-26 on faceoffs.Â

• Georgian Court is now 7-3 all-time against Post.
