Lions Kick Off CACC Schedule With Split at Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (March 16, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball rolled into conference play this week. The Lions split a pair of one-run games and move to 7-9 on the season and 1-1 in CACC play. 

Game One - Georgian Court 5, Bloomfield 4
How it Happened

• Georgian Court picked up nine hits, four going for extra bases. Bloomfield scattered eight hits, seven singles.
• Each team left runners on base with GCU stranding seven and the Bears six.
• The Lions were patient and drew four walks while GCU pitching walked just one.
• GCU started the scoring early with a pair in the first. Cheyenne Jackson walked and stole second and scored on Adriana Mungo's double. Mungo came in to score herself on Stufft's RBI single to center.
• The Bears cut the Lion lead in half in the second. A single, sacrifice bunt and a two-out RBI single got the Bears on the board.
• Back-to-back two-out doubles in the top of the third from Jadalynn Rodriguez and Charlee Mae Sinderud plated the Lions third run.
• Georgian Court used their speed to create a run in the fourth. Lia DeMaio singled, stole second, and scored on Jackson's single to shortstop.
• The Bears got closer with a run in the home half of the fourth. A leadoff hit-by-pitch came in to score on a sacrifice fly and the Lion lead was trimmed to 4-2.
• That's how the score remained until the sixth. With two out and one on, Daniela Vidal tripled to right to tie the game.
Kahlen Cornell entered in the circle for GCU and with two in scoring position, got a ground out to end the inning.
Kaitlyn Stufft led off the seventh with a single to center. She moved to second on a walk, third on a ground out and scored the go-ahead run on Gabriella Aleman's sacrifice fly.
• Cornell set the Bears down in order in the bottom of the inning to preserve the 5-4 win. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Kaitlyn Stufft was 2-3 with a run and an RBI. 
Jadalynn Rodriguez reached base three times with a double, single, and a walk.
Cheyenne Jackson, singled, walked and stole two bases.
Kahlen Cornell got the win pitching the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.
Janelle Blaszka started and allowed four runs on five hits 

For the Bears
• Jocelyn Moody pitched four innings of relief allowing two runs on four hits with three walks. She was also 2-3 at the dish with two runs scored. 
• Daniela Vidal drove in three runs with a triple in one official at bat.
• Sierra Albritton finished 2-4 with a stolen base. 

Game Two - Bloomfield 4, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened

• Bloomfield picked up nine hits to the Lions seven.
• Each team connected for two doubles. GCU also added a triple and home run.
• Both teams left eight runners on base.
• It was Bloomfield who got on top in the first inning in game two. A two-out RBI single plated the game's first run.
• The Lions threatened in the second, putting two in scoring position with one out. But the Bears escaped with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. 
• The scored stayed 1-0 until the third. Cheyenne Jackson led off with a walk and Kaitlyn Stufft did the rest. She parked one over the centerfield fence to put GCU up 2-1.
• Georgian Court added an insurance run in the fifth as Charlee Mae Sinderud and Gabriella Aleman lifted back-to-back two-out doubles.
• Bloomfield pushed a run across in the home half of the inning to get back to within one, 3-2.
• In the seventh, with two outs, Bloomfield had a clutch RBI single up the middle to tie game and send it to extra innings.
• The international tie-breaker rule was used starting in the top of the eighth. The Lions got a runner to third, but a pop out and strike out ended the inning.
• Bloomfield capitalized on their free runner. They used a pair of productive outs, scoring the walk-off run with a sacrifice fly. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Kahlen Cornell went the distance throwing 7.2 innings allowing four runs, three earned on nine hits with four strikeouts. 
Charlee Mae Sinderud was a home run shy of the cycle finishing 3-3 with a run scored.
Kaitlyn Stufft drove in two with a home run.

For the Bears
• Walters threw eight innings giving up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
• Sierra Albritton was 3-4 with three runs scored.
• Jocelyn Moody was also 3-4 and drove in two.
• Daniela Vidal walked and had the game-winning RBI sacrifice fly.

News and Notes
• Janelle Blaska threw her 200th career inning.
• The Bears won their 12th straight against Bloomfield in game one before that winning streak came to an end in game two. 
Cheyenne Jackson walked and stole second to start game one. It was the third straight game she led off with a walk and stole second base.
• GCU has made one or fewer errors in five straight games.
• The Lions have nine doubles in their last four games. 
• Georgian Court has already played four one-run games this season. They fall to 1-4.

Up Next
• Georgian Court finishes the week with a home doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Mercy. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
